The FASTEST Way To Cut Firewood!!

great 769 shows you the FASTEST way to process your firewood I used a traditional sawhorse and found it wanting, so I built this and am really happy with the result, and now with all the trouble going on in the Middle East and with Energy prices rising people are going to be processing more fire wood, this I believe is the way to go for several reasons, first it is fast, second it reduces wear and tear on your back, and reduce fuel and oil consumption, by not idling while you put another log on the horse, and it is also safe the logs don't move around while you are cutting.

I wanted to take a second to thank you for your idea here. I had always cut small wood with my father in law one piece at a time. I tried to think of a fast idea to get the job done. Also one that I could do solo piece, if necessary. This works so nice. I made three so far and keep them at home and all through the woods. Thanks again, and keep sharing.

The 2nd most use for this, is when I cut up a tree, I throw the smaller limbs into this as I cut. This keeps them out of my way and places all the smaller chunks of fire wood in one area for ease of loading, And best of all it protects my chain from the dirt which dulls the chain. We have had a wind storm that blew many trees over and or together,so lots of small limbs to deal with.

Great idea. The previous owners left huge piles of lodge pole pine on the property, so I made a log holder similar to yours this weekend. I've only had a chance to cut up three loads so far but I love it. Our property is pretty steep, so I packed my gear down the hill and built the holder out of wood that was laying around.

Nice. I like it because it is safe. I know a guy who cut into his foot cutting this type of small stuff. And you can move it around. With all the time U saved here, use some of it 2 sharpen ur saw. And U R correct if U keep the flue cleaned, and the wood is seasoned, u can burn pine and soft wood. I did it 1 year with no problems. Now have plenty of red oak and hard maple.

That's awesome, I love it. A tip for making kindling fast (similar idea but maybe not as brilliant as yours) is to screw an old tire on top of a large cable spool (a big thread spool like apparatus). Then pack the tire with rounds or wedges of firewood, and chop away, slowly moving in a circle around the tire. You can do a week of kindling in a big tire no problem. :)

heading out to build one! thank you. Oh, and the meat heads that criticize the size of wood: a log is a log, is a log (but that will probably go right over their meat heads:)

A log may be a log. But using the wrong type of wood in your stove creates unnecessary creosote buildup and the need to collect many more cords than should be necessary. If all you've got is pine that's one thing. But a hardwood log is in no way the same thing as this.

Having just bult this a few weeks ago, and now sitting here in winter temps in the teens, this sure has came in very handy, 1: I did not get my firewood in until late and now it is not cured. So I gathered all the dead limbs from a wooded hillside, and using this, I cut two pick up truck loads all in one spot that made it easy to load. Now I can get the fire going hot and add un-cured wood as I go. I now have 2 to 3 years of un-cured wood stacked in my building and 2 pick up loads of dried

This is a good idea. I think I'll build one but a little lower. All hardwood around here and even smaller dia. stuff 10 or 12 feet long gets heavy. We use a lot of smaller diameter branches or naturally dead trees. Some people insist upon using only large diameter trees but in a couple of hours two of us can gather, cut, split, and stack enough smaller (

Richard, what did our ancestors use for eye and hearing protection? My grandparents and parents all lived into their 90s with perfect hearing and vision. Gasoline powered chainsaws have been in use since 1929, that's 84 years of millions of chainsaws being used by millions of people globally. The manufacturers of "safety" equipment love this mentality, it makes them rich. Big goggles and face shields and leather aprons and airline pilot size earmuffs and sunblock, and on and on.

The 3rd and final most use for this is I keep it outside sort of out of sight, and as a limb falls in my drive way etc..I will pick it up and throw it in this rack. then I can deal with it later when I need the rack or when the rack gets full. I find that if I fill the stove with as many small pieces that it will hold,It does not go out over night and I have a large bed of coals. Where as big chunks are burned up completely,

Well done sir! I was impressed. Might I suggest placing two more cross supports close to the middle, with about 6-8" gap for your final saw pass to come down? That would support your final two stacks at each end, rather than fall in on themselves, and your saw!

I would try to have a wheelbarrow already UNDER it as much as possible. At 67, keeping bending and picking up to a minimum is a priority. I cut and split a lot of large oak, so most of the branches/tops get cut top to bottom right where they fall. Having cheap hired help (grandchildren) is also a very good thing. Just hearing his saw gives me the instinct to put on my ear-protectors. In general I would not even bother with small softwood, but living in Nova Scotia, he can't be so choosy.

***** still very slow. cutting one log at a time, still burning more fuel and god damn that is dangerous, imaging doing that for 3 or 4 hours one log at a time and suddenly you get comfortable and bammo you run your finger or hand over the blade with one of those shorter pieces!! Yikes this way was so much faster, less energy and time consuming and saved fuel. I have to disagree with vanilla...

i know this is an older video but heres my 2 cents and im not even hating just trying to add to this brilliant idea.. 2 cheap string pull plastic on either side or diy wider wood sleds or toboggans on either side to catch that dropping fire wood is a very cheap and effective way to save on bending over and gathering that wood once cut. just pull the sleds to the wood stack when done and stack.

The design on that saw is sweet, I have that same model and the tooless feature makes it a1, and it was cheap too as I recall 139.00, I've cut about 50 cords of wood with it, however, I primarily cut locust and oak, and I have found that the chains do not hold up, even the oregon replacements just don't last beyond 3 or 4 cords, but the Saw ids PRIMO

I saw it in real time. The actual cutting went really fast and the wood stayed in place instead of moving around dangerously as it sometimes can do when small. And it's nice to be able to stand up instead of bending over. But there's too much handling time in stacking it up. I've always been a cut-it-where-it-lays guy, which has worked well for me for 3+ decades. If I need to do any re-arranging, I shut my saw off. I also always wear hearing protection!

A great and simple idea. Of course, you could improve on that a 100 ways, for example by adding a sloping plank underneath, that makes the last few blocks slide to one side, (but then you coudn't step in and carry it around, unless it's hinged...) , but it works just fine as it is.

Add a skid steer and forks to the equation to pickup uni-formally cut logs and stack them in a little sturdier unit like this then you have something here. ANYTHING to keep you off your knees and prevent you from bending over is worth it in my book.

To those knocking 769 for cutting small logs and lengths: He's not in his prime anymore and it looks like he's heating a one-story house. I don't expect he'll mess around with logs larger than necessary. You certainly wouldn't cut night blocks on this rack and there's no reason he would show that on this video. Smart rack for it's purpose.
