2nd visit to Meridian Water station on the West Anglia Main Line
Featuring services from Greater Anglia
Meridian Water opened on June 3rd 2019 which replaced the former Angel Road station being located 580 metres to the North under the busy A406 North Circular Road.
Angel Road for many years was one of London's least used station and only had a few services a day in particular at peak time Monday to Fridays
It was open as Edmonton in 1840 before becoming Water Lane in March 1849 and then Angel Road in January 1864 which the station name would remain until it's final closure on May 31st 2019.
The main reason for Meridian Water is part of a long term redevelopment of the area it sits in which at the time development work was still ongoing.
Meridian Water at present has 3 Platforms although unusually numbered Platforms 2 - 4 instead of Platforms 1 - 3.
The reason for this is that the station has been built for future proof in case if Platform 1 is built especially provision for Crossrail 2 if it ever was to happen
Platform 2 is presently a bay platform used by Half Hourly shuttle services to and from Stratford which are nowadays provided by Class 720s which the line southwards is 3 track until just before Lea Bridge.
Platforms 3 and 4 do get used although only during morning or evening peak services to and from Bishops Stortford or Hertford East both originating from Stratford
Class 745s provide the Stansted Express services that run non stop one every 15 minutes however during the day it can also be operated by a pair of Class 720s.
