WARNING! Slightly graphic video at 1:58 of a Roadrunner sparring with a lizard. May want to skip if you're a sensitive soul! I like to believe the lizard got away!

Perhaps it did! Later we see a Roadrunner with what looks like the end of a lizard tail, maybe that lizard detached the tip of it’s tail and got away 🤞

Great video. I live in eastern New Mexico and once watched a group of about 6 roadrunners (im assuming it was a family group) cooperatively hunting . They were evenly spaced in a line about 3' between each bird walking along systematically flushing out lizards or large insects and nabbing them. I believe they were teaching their young ones to hunt. Very interesting behavior. Such cool birds.

We have them here on our property in N E Texas. They’re hysterical to watch when they race against our side by side. We also have bobcats, hawks, raccoons and coyotes.I love their little mohawks.

My wife and I used to volunteer at a wildlife rehabber in Oklahoma who had a roadrunner she’d raised. Absolutely the most hilarious critter I’ve ever been around. He would jump on your shoulder then up on your head. You could walk around with him on your head. Yep…his name was “Roadie”. 😜

There are two Roadrunners that live in bushes & shrubs close to my property here in Texas. I do watch for them because they are always close to the narrow road by my house and you are right, these birds are fast. 😊

I see them here in Hutchinson, Kansas but their plumage looks different. Found in the parking lots of the Walmart and the big Dillons supermarket. They scavenge around and are amusing to watch. Seeing one jump over a foot off the ground to perfectly pluck a bug out of a car's front grill is a real treat. They do that over and over.

What a fun video! Thanks for all the interesting info! While I camped near Tucson, AZ, a curious Roadrunner came right up to the door of my RV a few times cocking his head and dipping tail. He seemed unafraid of me. One of those unforgettable meetings ;-)

For several years, there was a roadrunner that used the garden center at the nearby Lowe's for nesting. Shortly before the babies were ready to leave the nest a nature rehab organization would come get them so that they wouldn't get to comfortable around people.

I had a pair of juvenile roadrunners hanging out in the mesquite trees in the back yard a couple of years ago - they would torment the dog any time he approached the tree. They also have a fairly raucous scratchy call when alarmed.

An Audubon Christmas Count, circa 1989, I had gone near the racetrack of Laguna Seca, Monterey County. A roadrunner crossed the road in front of me & stopped. I pulled over & grabbed the binoculars. It made threat postures for 10 minutes! Maybe I parked near a nest. Unforgettable.

I used to have one come into my backyard and knock on my sliding glass window. I think he thought his reflection was another road runner 😅 Very friendly too. Whenever I was in the backyard she'd just hang out with me. I caught her once on our roof, we have a two story 😮 they sure get around !

Roadrunners eluded me when I visited Arizona with my dad in 2015. My dad saw the tail end of one but I never got a look at him. And then after we left a gal that we had met in Arizona and become friends with had one that came to her feeder and she got a picture and showed it to me. It was like the roadrunner telling me in your face. So I know that looking for life birds can be tough sometimes and I'm hoping that you guys see your Montezuma Quails. Should I get back to Arizona birding one species that I really want to see is the Buff Collared Nightjar. I think the time to go looking for them though is in the spring.

Greetings! Question about roadrunners! So, I live in El Paso, TX and roadrunners are around here, especially on the outskirts of town. I have seen two different types of roadrunners, most commonly a smaller, thin roadrunner that is mostly gray. But I have also seen ones that are probably twice the size of the gray ones, and look like the one at 6:03. Much more beautiful than the previously mentioned ones I've seen. Are these two different types? Or male vs female? This is a question that I've had stored up in the old attic for a long time! Thanks for helping me dig it out😊
@BadgerlandBirding20 күн бұрын
@@aknightthatsaysnee5259 males are slightly larger than females but coloration would be similar between sexes. Could be adults and juveniles!
@aknightthatsaysnee525920 күн бұрын
@BadgerlandBirding Could there also be a ratio difference? Like one male for every ten females, or something like that? Because that is roughly about the way I encounter them (by the descriptions I used previously). Thanks!
