I realize it is popularity based..people are entitled to disagree with that list..but it is what it is. The thing is how many folks know about the villiians that people like KOL who are really immersed in the whole anime community think are the best villians out there? Only real truly hardcore anime fans would know of scarely known series and characters. There's over a thousand series in Japan alone not many people would devote that much time reading every single title and analyzing every character. And at the end of the day..KOL is just stating his personal opinions nothing more nothing less.

It's cool if people don't know that many villains, but when a list like this presents itself as ranking the best/greatest anime villains, they prevent you from learning about potentially better villains by enabling users to shoehorn popular characters to the top without really rationalizing their decision. We both know that any sort of "greatest" is something subjective and based on discussion, not votes. That's why it is treated as a joke by King here.

Well I've seen quite a lot of japanese culture shows and series, but not for the 80's and most of 90's anime, haven't touch that quite yet. Aside from that, I believe frieza is strong, very strong in comparison to most 2000's and 2010's anime, so I still on Frieza is top 10 statement, being number 7 or 8 at the very least. Then again, people are different. We have different taste also, so it's up to you to made up yout own list. But, if you really want to kick out frieza from my own top 10 list so much, then welcome... 1. Frieza is influential. Influential villain with fucked up personality? That's a big plus. He's just love to see people suffers, and he's just that powerful to do so. 2. Frieza has superb characteristics. This is no doubt the appeal of frieza as a villain. When most villains in naruto, for example, or many shonen manga, is easily swayed by words, frieza's character is rock solid. Cruel and heartless, will do anything as dirty as possible just to accomplish his goal. 3. Frieza is just pure evil. Even he has some kind of humor sense to look down his opponent. I just love it. How about you name your own list bro? maybe I could take some reference

As much as I love dbz their villains besides vegeta (when he was a villain) and maybe frieza aren't very good. The fact that meruem isn't in the top 10 just blows my mind. Plus the fact that they have Lelouch as a VILLIAN is stupid. Technically he was in the end but he was doing it on purpose to focus everybody's attention on him to make himself a villian so the world would come together. So not a true villian at all

Then your way is completely biased then if your shunning characters away to not meet your standards especially your hate on an series that is FT. There a reason the villains are in this list as there were still pretty good before their roles were over. Even FT have some interesting villains like Zeref, Mard Geer Tartarous, Hades, and so on. So your wrong on that regard about it. Lelouch while true he isn't. "True" Villain, he still took a role as a villain and he was pretty damn good. There a reason the anime pop-up because of him and that was one of the reasons. It get a Death Note-like role to him in a way. Mereum was pretty good and agree on bring higher, but I wouldn't call him the greatest just because he is from HXH. Not all the bad guys there have something to offer.

Meruem... an ant or practically a god, who was only alive for at most a few weeks, managed to take hundreds of people captive, dominate ants who had fought on par with hunters, forced the top hunter in the world to sacrifice his life in order to kill Meruem, was a strategical genius, and even had some of the best character development in most top series, ending with a tragic episode that made all viewers have a change of heart for him. This was just off the top of my head, yet still. Lost to 2 grown ass adults who couldnt steal a rat from a ten year old. I have no doubt in my mind that this is a troll

King PLEASE do a top ten (preferably a top twenty) best anime villains list of your own. It doesn't necessarily have to be the best developed or written villains, maybe you could just do a top ten favorite villains list, villains you find appealing, as opposed to a top ten best villain list, that way you can put villains that you love rather than just the best developed/characterized. Like Aizen is not one of the top ten best villains in anime, far from it, but he is a personal favorite of mine (he might be like number 10). He is not super developed or groundbreaking or special but I have a soft spot for the guy. Would love to see a villain list of your own and why you like the villain or why they are the best in your eyes.

When it all comes down to it & regardless of what anyone says, the quality of a “villain” is entirely subjective. No single person dictates what is or is not the “greatest” anime villain of all time. It’s different for everyone. What’s great to one may not be great to another.

A character being a "great character", writing being "great writing", stories being "great stories" is all subjective. Period. You thinking a villain isn't well-written is not universal. There is no one-size-fits-all formula to "quality" in this case. Group A's OPINION on a villain does not supersede Group B's. Even if Group A's OPINION happens to be the majority. You're trying to remove the individuality from a concept that is entirely dependent on the individual. We the consumers are all different people whom value different things. No one person speaks for us all. That should be common sense.
