Never was there a fielder like Solkar. In my childhood days I very much liked him for his acrobatic style of catches which none at that time was capable of. Ironically BCCI did not honor him suitably for his services to Indian cricket, rather his own fellow colleagues did not regard him. He is an unsung hero in the hearts of millions

I had heard about him "Ek Nath Solkar, Zelkar". Zel means catch in Marathi, and kar means do - do the catch. Others used to take catches whereas he used to make catches, . I saw him and shook hands with him in 1992 when I got my road running 2nd prize from his hands in Kalyan somewhere in Girls High School, not sure this School or some another, but definitely got it from the Great Hands of Zelkar. too Similarly, Ajit Wadekar is also one of the Greatest players in sports history because when he was the Chief Guest in one of our college function he said "Practice Makes One Perfect is wrong. Perfect Practice Makes One Perfect. Follow this, and success will follow you." and I was lucky taking my prize from his hands too, like Ek Nath Solkar. Hats off !

Eknath Solkar: when new ball bowlers were scarce in India, he opened the bowling attack almost with Gavaskar, Mohinder Amarnath, Syed Abid Ali etc. when the Indian pitches taylor made for Indian spinners BS Chandrasekhar, Prasanna, Bedi were operating.

Eknath Solkar was really one of the greatest fielders of India but there is one more act also associated with him. India's lowest total in test cricket against England (probably against any country) is 42 runs . Out of which Solkar alone scored 25 runs.
