Damon and Stefan's reunion is top 5 TVD scenes for me, it was so well done. lan and Paul brought their A games in that scene they both played it off very well, the disbelief but simultaneously the desperation for it to be real on Paul's face, lan playing the big brother who jokes to hide the emotion but also just wanting to comfort his little brother, both was chef's kiss and out of everyone Stefan deserved the emotional reunion so I am very glad they gave it to him.

This episode was so good, one of my favorites. The reunion between Damon and Stefan was so emotional, you can see how much they loved and missed each other, especially Stefan who couldn't believe he was back. The greatest love story is between these two. You can see how much their relationship has changed since season 1. I'm glad that Damon is back but I hate that Bonnie had to sacrifice herself once again to make it happen. I love Kai, even though he does horrible things, his character is so interesting. I love Bonnie, and can't wait to see her journey trying to leave the prison world.

I'm sorry for everyone that loves this season, but some things just make no sense at all. I will rant for a bit, so move over from this comment if you don't want to hear divergent opinions on your fav seasons. No spoilers though. You guys are right, why would a full on doctor and a professor, go to a college party? How creepy it is that Jo accepted the invite of a 19 years old student, to go to a college party? And Ric, sure, Elena is basically his kid, but that's not how a professor acts, and he should know that! The Elena arc of forgetting memories and trying to hit on a random dude, absolutely disgusting. They build up this strong, independent, full of character and ideas Elena, to destroy her because of a guy. She can lose every single one of the most important people in her life, and be fine, survive it, and show she is strong, but she breaks and gives up because of ONE guy? Like, that's not Elena. That's such bullshit to do that to a strong female character, make her strong while she has a man in her life, but completely useless if she doesn't. Also, lot of the lines in this season are so fucking cheesy, feels like it was written by teenagers, not for teenagers. The plot holes are insane, feels like they forgot that most people in mystic falls have been compelled at some point, and they are still there, so they all remember everything about vampires, but let's not talk about that, right? Liz Forbes knows Damon met her in 1994, killed a whole boardhouse filled with guests, and delete her memories, but who cares? Also, I love Caroline, she's probably the best part of all these seasons, and her arc this season is quite interesting, but the writers use that to just throw everything at her and let her juggle with it. The good parts of this season is that Kai is a great antagonist. Jo is cute. Caroline is the boss as always. And I'm glad we have Ric back. But that is not enough to make the season go up in the best seasons in my books. Sure, others have lower standards for what is good, and that's great, but I just get annoyed with this one. I hope you guys survive it without hating it too much.

Frfr. I feel like this season had a lot of new characters & a lot of teasing us of “are they gonna be new main characters in this cast? Are they? Are they? Are they? Sikeee”. This season was & still is so good. The fact that they added Liv, Luke & Enzo who were weak last season, Liz getting a bigger part in this season, Alaric coming back in the season 5 finale & then Jo & Kai being added to the main cast & they manage to huge this big cast & make them all so interesting. I would mention Liam, cause I liked him but I know the Delena fans hated him because he wasn’t Damon, so I won’t mention him. The cast is as big as it’s ever been in this season & it works. Adding Sarah Salvatore (the real one) & Ivy (for her few episodes) & people genuinely were like “I hope they stay as main characters” just as 1 episode Lexi (until later flashbacks) & 1 season Anna (until the ghost stuff 2 seasons later) were. That’s how good the writing was. That there wasn’t a single character that people really hated this season, unlike 5.

Damon's a Byronic hero- a Gothic antihero. He's capable of some greater acts of bravery (including this episode knowing that Kai was about to kill him but urging Bonnie to save herself and abandon him), even as he has done many very villainous deeds. Elena saw the heroic side of him more than any other character (though others have seen tidbits here and there that make them feel like he's a good ally in an emergency if he's not the one causing it) and of course Stefan and even Matt have heroic traits, so yeah, Liam fits into her type. She was impressed by his skill, and by his humanity (he saved a person without having to rely on magic, like she wants to be able to). But Zuff... as Elena showed in her first scene with Ric this episode, knowing that she had feelings for Damon doesn't mean she'll automatically want them back with his rearrival, since she doesn't feel them now. The Originals references in this episode from you guys were funny- "Rebekah has Hope" and "Elena's off kissing Klaus" (Nina had one kiss with the man as Tatia in an episode centered on Elijah, c'mon Zuff). But not Bryce saying the name Freya! Come now, sir, that is not the Originals' long lost witchy sister 😁 (the video with the reveal of her existence is incidentally not even posted for non-subscribers yet). Rob thinking Stefan would spend this episode being relieved and happy Ivy's alive because his anger was over her fate rather than Enzo's spoiling his start... nope. Ivy was right on the money with "he's just not that into you" (poor, poor girl). He really offloaded her to Caroline to train near the current vampire-hunter homesite of Tripp. Tyler messed up reading his texts while driving, but I am very grateful to Liv for saving him from the consequences of his actions and taking that burden onto herself. (does leave me wondering if there was ever an investigation into this car accident on second thought) Also, just a reminder, Tyler didn't randomly kill to trigger the first time- Katherine devised the entire situation to force him into it in self-defense. Bonnie once again deserves so much better. I'm glad Damon got to live (if she'd left him there, Kai was absolutely killing him in a rage, and like Zuff intuited, the people the world wasn't made for don't get resurrected), but it is absurd that she has to endure living alone in the prison world with Kai. That being said, she proved (again) her strength and cunning by figuring out that Kai needed her and her Bennett blood and magic, and then action heroing the rest of the episode. (Rob, excellent new shirt in this reaction) While Damon's "no" is certainly a little ridiculous, Kat and Ian did sell the bond strengthened between Bamon over the prison world months together. *Note: Zuff was also correct that Kai's magic was always like this (siphoned from others), even before the prison world, and I'm pretty sure that's why Damon was struggling in their fight- Kai had hold of him and was sapping his magical strength while he had a wooden stake (the arrow end) inside him too.

Stefan wasn't into Ivy. Their relationship was just casual. That is not his fault. Ivy is not "alive" either. Why should he be happy that Enzo killed her and turned her for no reason? That is one of the worst fates in Stefan's opinion.

Just because she was sired (and therefore Damon's lapdog and only his advice "helped" and she feels like she's disappointing Stefan) doesn't mean those feelings are based in reality or that it's true. She was sired. Nothing Stefan did to help worked anymore - unless it was coming from Damon. They both felt the tension because of that and it put strain on their relationship. It didn't help that they had no idea she was sired in the first place.
