The GOAT - billiard/pool PLAYER.. any discipline or country.. . EVER

People need to stop calling his shots flukes or lucky or anything like that. When his planned shots keep succeeding you have to start attributing it to his incredible skills. Otherwise, you have to do the same for other players and start calling their shots flukes too. That's disrespectful to these amazing masters.

But some of them were flukes. Most of them were planned shots but its ok if some of them were.

@@thomasford4716 Well, that goes without saying, but I see some bias in some comments where they call his shots a fluke and not others' shots. Look at the shot Efren did in the 2005 US Open 9-ball against John Schmidt in the first rack. That's as "flukish" as could be and yet it's not a fluke.

I think i have to agree with you. I have seen Strickland have success in 10 ball but not really anything other than 9 ball. Sigel has won big in 9 ball, 8 ball and Straight pool. But no one is good like Efren is in so many games, 9 ball, 8 ball, straight pool, rotation, one pocket, and ive seen him win at billiards.

@@michaeltrumph121 most newbs and nut-huggers will disagree, but several of them were total flukes. I love Efren like most players do, but the fact that so many people believe that he’s always trying to make these incredibly unlikely shots is mind-numbing to me. He’s a great player, probably one of the best ever, but he wasn’t trying to make the majority of these shots.
@michaeltrumph1212 жыл бұрын
@@tomstathis8653 Agreed. ATM I'm arguing with a dummy who actually thinks Efren intended all of these, it's baffling how stupid some people are. I used the first shot as a clear example of a fluke, pointing out that he probably intended to make it in the top corner pocket and here's what he thinks:' _"1. He’s not trying the top corner pocket. Why? His attempt was not even close. Look closely. He went 2 rails hitting the MIDPOINT of the short rail and left english to the side rail to get enough spin going back. This is not the first he’s done that.. 2. Where exactly is he hiding that cue ball if that’s a safety shot. My point is YOU did not see the angle he’s working with going 2 rails and however improbable doesn’t mean there was no strategy behind it. It’s exactly how people reacted when he did the Z shot in 1995. It was so ahead of his time. A fluke is sheer luck. At this age and stage of his career (he’s over 50 at this point) he can see scenarios and possibilities on the pool table that is simply incomprehensible for casuals and even elite players"_ The man is fucking clueless about this sport.
@tomstathis86532 жыл бұрын
@@michaeltrumph121 I’ve read all the comments. I played very high level pool back in the late 90’s and early 2000’s, and I’ve been around Efren dozens of times. I’ve watched him play from 10’ away at least 30 times, and it’s easy to admit he’s easily the best all-around player of this generation, but to kick multiple rails and make a bank of a ball three rails in the side? Nope, not even close to what he was trying. He’s known to do that sheepish grin with the silly fist pump when he gets lucky, everyone who knows him knows that.

If you want to compile a true video of great shots, make sure the game is call shot. Otherwise all you have to do it hit your object ball and after that whatever happens is either planned or luck. In a call shot game you have to say what the balls are going to do. No room for "I'm just Lucky". But that would take a long time to produce and probably wouldn't put your hero on the pedestal all you fan boys keep Efren on.

@@davidgivins4203 I've done plenty of these shots because I'm aggressive, like he is. What this video doesn't show is the 60 or 70% of the time he misses, it's just the odds, it is what it is for anyone. Everyone remembers the amazing makes, everyone forgets the 10x you missed before that. Also, I'm not saying that these are necessarily bad shots, but context really matters here, if he's up five nothing against somebody in a race to seven he might go for a stupid shot where he should just play simple safety, knowing the context separates if you're acting like a hot dog with a big safety net or you're really playing a real strategy to really hit the ball in to get the win, that really makes a difference I believe, but that is just my opinion, maybe I am wrong. His Z kick against Earl was something like an 8-8 in a race to 11 for a shit ton of money, that's a priceless shot, in history, no room for error and he went for it and it worked, good for him. But many shots in this video are just aggressive banks shots, sorry, nothing to special, seen many of those shots tonight, some went in, some didn't, no one was a pro. Nothing special about that, misleading video and title I'm my opinion.....

Okay, let's resolve this "fluke" issue once and for all. A fluke is something other than what you intended and planned that is out of the ordinary and still pockets your ball. A fluke involves luck, but luck is not exclusive to a fluke. A fluke is not your ball going in because you hope so. After all, everyone hopes every shot goes in. Is every shot then a fluke? No, of course not. Here are examples of the two, and hopefully you'll be able to tell the difference between the first one (where the ball jumps up), which is the fluke, and the second, where clearly Efren planned the shot and it worked. Both require luck, but only the first one is a fluke. Here they are: kzbin.info/www/bejne/pJCqkqRuaM98r7M ................... and the second one .................. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3zHc5uGnJVkjKM.
