IMO, Larry Bird is the GOAT. You mentioned that you knew that Jordan was a trash talker… I believe he said somewhere that he learned it from Larry. Larry had the highest basketball IQ ever, at any point in the game he knew where every player was… Not just his own team, everybody. He HAD to win. Maybe he wasn’t fast maybe he wasn’t super physical, but he was driven, and the minute his feet stepped on the court he was relentless. Unlike Jordan and the players of today, he was a team player. He didn’t seek the glory or the spotlight. I’m not saying he wasn’t out there to win - but he was happy to pass to one of his teammates if they had a better shot at the basket than he did. As Magic Johnson said, there will never, ever be another Larry Bird. If you haven’t yet, check out Making the Case for Larry Bird. Best team ever? ‘86 Celtics.

The thing about Bird was that he could absolutely do anything he said he was going to. I miss watching him play.

Dude.. First of all Mj learned all his trashtalking and getting into peoples head, through Larry Bird.. Mj said that himself. Second, MJ's trashtalking is kindergarten level, compared to the legendary level of trashtalk of Larry.

86 Celtics no doubt in my mind, and I grew up in a Lakers household.

You can't triple him, you're risking it doubling him. He'll just throw a pinpoint laser to the open man, who he seems to know will be there before the man himself, which did on occasion catch them off guard. Some of his passes caught commentators out and they'd make the wrong call and have to correct themselves lol. Larry Bird - Greatest Passer Of All Time (Re-edit with new footage), 15 minutes of sublime passing 👌.

Basketball isn’t the same as those days. The Celtics/Lakers rivalry was the best. Being from Boston and living in So Cal I had the time of my life during those years. It was a privilege to watch him play!

Bird was amazing, and the Lakers/Celtics thing was strong back then (I was in high school). But my top team will always be a 1992-1993 Chicago Bulls team.

Bird and Erving were NOT complaining to the refs, 1 ref broke his leg early in the game so there was just 1 working the game mostly it was Bird telling Erving to retire with every shot he hit when the fight broke out it was 36 to 6 in favor of Bird

86 Celtics is who I would take to save my life. Quit possibly the best team to play on a court. They were stacked injuries wouldn’t even affect them because their bench went so deep.

That's helped him ne such a great passer as well. What his eyes seen his where the ball would go. Whether it was shooting or passing or throwing the ball at Bill Laimbeer's head. Great comment Kathy!

Jordan learnt to perfect his trash talking by watching and listening to larry. Still Jordans play off record is 0-6 in favour of larry and 23-11 if you include the regular season aswell. Larry has 3 consecutive mvps while jordan has 5 but none are 3 in a row. Jordan is the billy goat but without magic and bird would he have become the global superstar he is today i doubt it.

MJ will tell you. He learned from Larry, when it came to talking shit. 1996 BOSTON CELTICS AGAINST THE WORLD! they could play small, they could play big, fast break, slow down, it didn't matter. 5, 5 HALL A FAMER, SHOULDN'T HAVE TO SAY MORE.

..."Class of 76"...Larry Bird was great and when ask what he thought of Pistol Pete Maravich Larry said Pistol Pete was the best ball handler and shooter I ever saw....Do Pistol Pete...he still holds many records and when you see superstars doing moves that are credited to them...THEY ARE NOT...they copied them from the Pistol....RIP Pistol...he died on the court at 40 from a undiagnosed cardiac birth defect...his last words were..."I Feel Great"

Larry didn't talk trash. He talked truth, and he was so different because he would talk to an opponent, and THEN do what he said he was going to do, instead of doing something first and then trash talking his opponent like almost every other player who trash talks does it. It's no big deal to hit a shot and then talk trash. There's no pressure in that because your words weren't on the line. If you don't hit the shot, you just keep your mouth shut. I think Larry did it the way he did because he was so confident in his abilities that he thought, "I said it. Now it's time to go do it." Most of the time, his actions backed up his words. He knew that it was just another form of psychological warfare and he used it to his utmost advantage. This was significant because the mental side of the game is more important than most people probably realize and Larry was unrivaled at getting in other players' heads and getting them out of their games. What makes it even more impressive is that he didn't just do it to average players, he also did it to the best players, many who are in the Hall of Fame. He is my all-time favorite NBA player, and in my mind the most complete player in NBA history when consider the impact he made on a game not only with what you can see on a score sheet, but also for the things you can't, such as his supreme basketball IQ and court awareness. He was also famous for his incredible work ethic and "tough as nails, leave everything on the floor" attitude, and his unparalleled ability to perform in the clutchest moments. Finally, it was the way he was able to consistently make average teammates look really good and great opponents look really bad.
