How would you go about removing a section of the base (e.g. to lay the floor tile over a wide and thin bump in the floor, such as an unused track for a heavy sliding door) while keeping the upper surface intact?

Hello, we don't have a recommendation for removing a section of the base. This could affect the integrity of the tile and cause the tile to crack depending on how much of the base was removed.
