This is common in the Mediterranean after a long heatwave. However this year it was harder than usual. Madrid last week, Italy, and now central Greece.

Yeah when it rains in Greece it RAINS. Greece has earthquakes, tornado's, forestfires, crazy storms, and what not. Greece is truly gorgeous. And also has these natural phenomena

The seasons in Greece are very distinct, so a lot more rain in autumn and spring. Cold in the winter, sometimes snow even in the centre of Athens, even on the beach! Plenty of spots to ski too. Many areas around Greece are used to a couple of metres of snow. The odd rain does occur in the summer, looks like this and then it drains away pretty fast. Unfortunately the urban planning in many greek cities i.e. too much concrete and turning natural streams to underground streams leaves little chance of direct ground absorption which results to flooding. Illegal building in natural flood planes and in the path of seasonal streams is also an issue.

Ydra is great! You wouldn't get seasick, especially in the summer the Saronic gulf is rarely choppy., it's quite sheltered. Some museum suggestions: The museum of ancient Greek technology (Kotsanas) near Syntagma is a fantastic little museum - and interactive. You'll be amazed with all the contraptions, from automated doors to cinematography, to manufacturing devices, door alarms... I think you could do it in ca. 1,5hrs. THE museum to visit in Athens is the National Archeological museum, it houses the most important antiquities from throughout Greece, including from Cyclades, Mycene and Thera, from prehistoric times to Roman times. The recently renovated National Gallery is also great, mainly paintings art from El Greco until the contemporary art, it has great views towards Lykavittos hill. If you are interested in avant guard stuff there is an exhibition on Iannis Xenakis in the National Museum of Contemporary Art (housed in the FIX Brewery), well worth a visit!
