@greg oscar They never entered that court that day and didn't play at all. Because they were still celebrating the USA game and were not serious to play the next game. This I agree shows bad behaviour, lack of professionalism, and an inferiority complex as well perhaps because they won a game they didn't win a war, so they should get serious, work, and focus and play the next game and then perhaps think the USA game over the summer after the tournament. This is similar to what Greece football team did in 1996. They went to first Mundial for Greece and spent the time there doint barbeques and going to Greek parties with Greek-Americans and taking photographs, and didn't enter really any court or really play anygame. Greece football team got serious when they had a German coach and with German coach they had discipline, seriousness, plan, and got the 2004 gold in Euro.

It was an interesting day. People here in Turkey (including me) were rooting for Greece like crazy (perhaps especially basketball fans). Goes to show two things: 1. People hate arrogance. Want it to be taught a lesson no matter who will do the job. 2. When there is sort of a noble common motive to identify with, people will find a common ground to unite (like here unite under a neighborhood/non-US/European etc. banner).

I remember watching this game during my vacation in Greece ! A great day, even if I knew that they will loose the final cause they spent such energy to win against USA. But it's a game that made proud all europeans ! BRAVO :-)

Eventhough Greece is small country, with roughly 11m population, the Greek national basketball team managed to win both USSR in the European cup finals in 1987, and Team USA in the semi-finals of the world cup in 2006. Without being excessive, thats some big ass achievement because both of these teams were superpowers in the sport at their times. It takes more than skills to face such opponents and manage to win. I'm eager to see the new Greek lineup playing the court on September, at the World Cup. In my opinion, if they stay focused on strategy, they have a solid chance to claiming it as well. Team USA will always have a superstrong team, but if someone is to stop their streak, i think that someone might be Greece. Peace and love.

This team was great for a number of reasons. 1.It changed USA's entire basketball preparation program,as well as its mindset. They never lost a World Championship ever again (until 2019,at least).They understood that FIBA rules composed an entirely different ball game than they were used to. 2.The NBA started scouting Europe MASSIVELY, in comparison to previous years. By 2019, they have so many Euroleague players it's ridiculous. 3.It raised a young Giannis Antetokounmpo, as well as TONS of other Greek players including Sloukas, Calathes, Papanikolaou, Pappas, Papapetrou, Printezis, and Mantzaris... 4.It started a new golden era for Greek basketball (the Diamantidis-Spanoulis era,to be exact) of 2005-2014. 5.This is one of the few times the unbreakable USA team has been defeated. I think the great Argentina of Ginobili accomplished the same thing. Not even the Spaniards, the Serbs, the Croatians or the Turks managed that. 6.When Diamantidis was asked in his last interview as an active player, which game he would most like to replay and win, his response was "The World Championship Final of 2006". Greece SHOULD have won the tournament that year. It was our greatest team ever. 7.It was a golden triad of years for Greece in general. We won Euro 2004 in football (soccer) and we hosted the Olympic Games, we won the Eurobasket and Eurovision in 2005, and we came 2nd in MundoBasket in 2006. Good times. mr boo Do you even know why 1992 The Dream Team was created? They got tired of grown men's acting like hotshot while beating our 18 19 year old kids. When the world trys to ride on it in such a shameless manner it's funny that they call us arrogant. Charles Barkley also talks about this exact topic in a interview. The Dream Team was a result of arrogant people acting like they are beating our best. We knew our team was weaker in the 70s 80s 2004 and 2006 but when we send our A Team like everybody else I actually feel bad. Its a fact that our B Team is made up of mostly Teens and young 20s (college or not). It wasn't just about age either even though this played a big roll in the Dream Team. USA sent 2 all stars on a roster of 12 in 2004. That's what we call our B-Team in USA. Some of our best players that were Allstars in 2006 were Kobe, Tracy McGrady, Ray Allen, Tim Duncan, Kevin Garnett, Gilbert Arenas, Shaquille O'Neal, Allen Iverson, Chauncy Billups, Vince Carter, and Paul Pierce. Look what happened at the 2008 Olympic when we sent 9 All stars on a roster of 12. 2012 and 2016 were also 9 Allstars out of 12. In 1992 when we sent 11 out of 12 with arguments that the 12th spot should've went to either Shaquille O'Neal or Isaiah Thomas. Infact I'll go one more. The world says "no excuses you arrogant Americans!". U.S.A. beat Russia in Hockey and we call it Miracle on Ice. We know they were the better team and we got lucky and caught them on their bad day and our good day on the same day. No way would we beat them twice in a row. but if we said "no excuses Russia" it would sound very arrogant. The real issue is you guys don't know how to handle a win. That's why alot of people considers the Miracle on Ice the biggest upset in Olympic History. The team was the youngest roster in the tournament and U.S.A history and didn't have much playing time together compared to a USSR team that was full of Mens in their absolute prime and had considerable playing time together. This is the same team that most says is the greatest in Russia's history. That's like The Dream Team losing to the youngest squad in the 1992 tournament. Think about that for a second.

These Greek players were amongst the best players in Europe playing in the top-tier european club teams. They are greatly repspected in all european countries, including Turkey. Best Guards Europe ever had, and they happen to be together on the same national team.... Oh, certainly! Absolutely fantastic! They played real basketball….they played as a team, and every single player played great! They all kept their head and their cool, were super psyched, and proved to the whole world that the NBA "dreamteams" are a sort of super expensive joke when pushed against the ropes. I get such a kick out of the Americans' faces...they can't believe what is happening: they're supposed to be unbeatable! They have no idea now to pull themselves together, or how to play as a team. They haven't played any real defense since they were in college, and here are some "unknown" European players getting past them to the basket like they're not even there! Indeed, the Greeks played the most beautiful game I've ever watched live! I was just a kid back in 2006, but gosh did I love it! I remember I somehow was confident Greece would win from the start (some pregame hunch) and enjoyed every minute of it! I was very sorry they lost to Spain (a team which couldn't have beaten USA themselves) on the final. Greece deserved the gold medal

I think the best Greek game ever...in euroleague players are used to play as a team, because they don't have such athletic bodies like nba players...of course if you have such players like nba players you don't have to play basketball with tactics.....i like the nba more than euroleague...From the other hand in euroleague you see more tactics more mind games! Je l'avais vu en direct à l'époque, exultant de joie devant cette nouvelle défaite du "jeu" NBA devant l'Europe, à l'époque on pouvait encore croire que la NBA ne serait pas ce qu'elle est devenue, l'aspirateur de tous les talents européens, et que l'Europe serait une concurrente de plus en plus dominante (c'était avant que tous les meilleurs Européens partent en NBA, 2006). Je ne me souvenais pas que l'écart dans le jeu était aussi énorme. Les U.S.A. sur ce match sont à peu près un résumé à enseigner de tout ce qu'il ne faut pas faire en jouant au basket, c'est vraiment hideux, caricatural, individualiste et presque ridicule. La Grèce n'est même pas exceptionnelle, jeu lent et maîtrisé avec de gros talents (merveilleux Papaloukas dans l'animation sur ce match, notamment). L'Espagne de 2008 ou 2012 ou la Yougoslavie de 2002 sont largement au-dessus dans la beauté du jeu. Ce qui reste unique dans ce match c'est qu'il y avait tous les meilleurs Américains, pour la première fois depuis longtemps la sélection était complète (sauf Bryant blessé et Duncan), ce qui n'a malheureusement jamais été le cas contre Bodiroga, Divac et cie. P.S. : et le pire c'est que l'arbitrage n'est vraiment pas pro-grec sur ce match, c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire... Les ânes bâtés surmusclés, tatoués et "manchettés" (les douces années "sans cervelle" du basket ricain) sont nettement protégés.
