Being polite and requesting customers to wait while you deal with personal stuff could still be as bad as cutting corners. Everyone's time is precious. Gene should have been told to wait and Robert could talk to his dad while serving the customer. Everyone from the lady who were in line after Gene left had to deal with Robert's 'spare me a moment' twice.
