Eddie Johnson was revered in Greece during his time playing for Olympiacos. His coach, Giannis Ioannidis, helped revive him personally despite the unique circumstances that presented themselves.

I remember Eddie's arrival like it was yesterday. We were ecstatic when he joined the team and once we saw him playing with Olympiacos jersey he became a legend. Eddie, you are loved to this day, there is no doubt about that! God bless you and all the best to you and your family!

In his first game away in Greece he played my team Aris BC. In those days our hall was a jungle. In pre game warm up a fan threw a coin and Eddie almost lost his eye. The general manager of Olympiacos was afraid that Eddie as an american will leave the team get in the first plane and go back to the States. Eddie told him "don t worry man, I grew up in Chicago". Eddie played in that game gave us 25 and we lost by 15 or 20 if I remember correctly. He didnt play for my team but I love this man

if we're talking about Olympiakos fans, Eddie is still huge in Greece.. a Legend.. he probably don't have to pay for a meal over here for the rest of his life.. (no exaggeration) HAIL EJ.. YOU'RE ALWAYS GONNA BE WELCOMED HERE.. YOU EARNED THAT..

Eddie was one of the best proffesionals ever played the game in Greece.Great character great attitude and of course great shooter.A real snipper.We still remember making this 360 shot in Saragoza final 4 turning the game to the Oly'sside. We will always remember you Fast Eddie and you will always be welcome in Greece.Hope we go through the next final 4 in Berlin and attend the event as a guest. All the best Eddie.

Eddie Johnson played great that year. In contrast with many current players that are happy triggers, his shot selection was superb.

Love you man. I was 15 back then and before you I used to drive to the rim. After Eddie I was coming out of the screens shooting tree pointers and and shouting Eddieeeee Jooohnson to the guy guarding me. 😅 You was a gift for us. God bless you, we wish all the best ❤

The coach Ioannidis was really superstitious. Except from black cats, he was wearing the same coat for the whole season, getting really dirty from the stuff thrown from the spectators. He is an emblematic figure for Greek basketball.
