Dear Gail, A Mass card is a card given to the family of the deceased to let them know that a Catholic (or other mourner) has arranged for / Requested a Catholic priest to offer the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass for the repose of the soul of the deceased. This life is not all there is. Hope that helps. PS What the Orthodox father described are the cards made up by the funeral parlor with sacred images and prayers to God for the deceased to be given to mourners to remind them to pray for the dead.

PS I agree about your mission, that we should prepare for the inevitable, it is the most loving thing the deceased can do for their family / the family can do for the deceased
