Let me be the first to say "It's all Greek To Me." Grown! Seriously, I like the music, it's catchy.

Pathé has always been a bit of a mystery to me. This could be early electric, but also a 'field' recording made much later with a mobile studio. There's always been huge interest in ethnic Greek music, quite probably because it is such a fascinating mix between Eastern and Western musical traditions. Our tonal system was developed by the ancient Greeks, they actually calculated the intervals between the different notes and invented the octave, by halving the length of a string.

Opa! It's called "Syrtos Tsirigotikos" A Syrto is a dance in the rhythm you hear. The singer is G. P. Moulos "Aman," the word you hear used throughout, and probably not a Greek word, is used here as a cry or lament, kind of like a dramatic, "Oy vey," and while not really translatable, you know what it means. It can range from a cry of anguish to a reaction to sad or shocking news, on down to a simple, "sheesh!"
