Green Bay vs. Dallas "Dez Dropped It" (2014 NFC Divisional) Green Bay's Greatest Games

In one of the more famous Packer games in recent history, Aaron Rodgers, playing with a bad calf, leads his Packers back from a second half deficit to prevail 26-21 over the Dallas Cowboys and send Green Bay to the NFC Championship for the first time since 2010. This game was memorable mostly due to the controversial Dez Bryant catch/no catch that was originally ruled a catch but then overturned as Bryant was unable to maintain control of the football throughout the process of the catch. The overturned call came on a 4th and 2 inside of Green Bay's 35, giving the Packers the football back and allowing Rodgers to seal it on a 3rd and 11 throw to Cobb at the 2 minute mark.

Dallas had over 4 minutes to stop Green Bay, but could not do it. So how can anybody say Dallas would have won if it was ruled a catch? Green Bay had a first and 10 at Dallas' 24 yd line, and 1:55 to go when Cobb made the last catch and Green Bay let the clock run out. GB was in chip shot field goal range, with plenty of time for a td. All Dallas had to do was stop GB, but they could not do it.

Mark Raymond really? The Packers first 5 drives went inside the Seattle 30 yard line and they got 16 points. 3 times they were in the red zone and had 13 points to show for it. Then there’s the fake field goal where they let a punter throw a touchdown against them. Then there’s Burnett going down on his own when he pretty easily could’ve gotten into field goal range, then there’s the onside kick, and the 2 pt conversion that was a complete breakdown. That’s all the fault of the Packers. The only REAL chokes by Atlanta in the Super Bowl were not running it before the Ryan fumble and after the Julio catch. Everything else was great defense by the Pats and great offense by the Pats. Both were awful chokes, just when you break it down the Packers had so many more times the win was certifiably in their hands.
@markraymond101
@markraymond101 6 жыл бұрын
Richard Nixon I’m not saying the Packers didn’t choke. They choked badly. But not as bad as the Falcons. They decided after 45 minutes the Super Bowl was over. And gave up against Tom Brady. There have been plenty of games where teams choke badly or are up 24-0 at halftime and lose. The Falcons in LI and Seahawks XLIX were more significant chokes in my opinion.

@frenchfrey65 6 жыл бұрын
Alright buddy, lets consider that, first of all, only by 4 TD's, so he barely has more than Jordy. Jordy didn't start full time until 2012 (to which he got hurt that season), he also got hurt in 2015 for a full season. Jordy had to compete with, James Jones, Greg Jennings, Randell Cobb, Donald Driver, Jermicheal Finley, and Donald Lee for many seasons. Dez Bryant in his rookie season (got hurt) had to compete with Roy Williams and Miles Austin and then he won the starting job immediately a year after. Dez did get hurt too, but never for full seasons. He was only good when Romo was healthy, 2015 onwards, not that great. now granted Jordy had a very bad down year this past season mostly due to Hundley, you also have to consider the man is 33 years old, a death sentence for WR's staying that long in this league, because in 2013 when we lost Rodgers, he still had 1300 yards receiving from Scott Tolzien and Matt Flynn. Between 2011-2013, Dallas finished 8-8 all 3 seasons, Romo was healthy for all but 1 game in those 3 seasons. So yes, in the end Dez did get more TD's than Jordy, only because Dez had a head start, was a 1st round pick vs 2nd round, was mostly healthy all his career, but still finished with just 4 more TD's. Come on man, catch up

A bygone era. With the new rule, catches will go back to being how they were before this one and the Calvin Johnson one. They'll be more lenient. If it "looks" like a catch (two feet, one knee, not letting it touch the ground), they'll let it stand. So hopefully we'll see less controversy from now on....the only thing I'm certain of was that those were some bad ass looking cleats Dez had on during that play. :)

He caught that ball. A lot of ppl don't understand the rules and assume that you have to have total control at all times. That's not true. You have to have total control when you catch the ball. Then there is the process of a football move. To which he did when he extended the ball towards the goal. Then there is the rule that the ground can not force a fumble. He also switched hands and that shows that he secured the catch and had control. So when he extended the ball towards the goal and the ball hit the ground and moved, it meant the ball was down where Dex Bryant was tackled. The hare for the Cownoys was evident.

Anybody else find it annoying when a receiver clearly makes a catch, but the DBs instantly start waving their arms like an idiot signaling it's incomplete? Then here comes the ref saying it was caught. It happens with fumbles too. A player who's nowhere near the pile and couldn't possibly have seen who recovered it is always doing the "first down" arm chop.

The problem is you are looking at the 2018 rule for a "catch", not the 2014 rule. Calvin Johnson made a catch, had possession, took two steps, the ball was jarred loose after making contact with the end zone -- and it was ruled a drop and the Lions were denied a dramatic game-winning TD. This was exactly the same scenario. According to the 2014 rule -- whether you like or agree with it or not -- if Calvin Johnson's catch was a drop, so was this one.
