Green clumped fur under rabbits chin...

Have you ever had a rabbit's fur lump together and within 24hrs or so it starts to get smelly or even turn green... IN THE FUR?! Like what in the world right? This is something that I have dealt with using bowls to water my rabbits, especially with having large does dip their dewlap in the water and it stays wet.

Thank you! My bunny started dunking his head in the water bowl out of the blue and I noticed his fur clumping up. I kept drying it, and as soon as I thought it got better, it got worse so fast 😵 those infections dont mess around. Me being too impatient to wait for the vet, I'm glad I found this video.

Yep it's insane how fast that infection spreads. Even if it happens over a weekend and you want to get them to a vet for it they would be a mess in a few days.

Have you tried a nipple water system. 5gallon buck setup should be enough for them. We have a bigger herd (we did what you said not to do at the beginning when building a herd, in a different video, the beginning and got ourselves into multiple breeds 🫣) but we have all of them established on a 17 Gallon system, last a day with them but I don't mind that as makes it easier the. Having to dumb it daily to give fresh water we just fill up and only take down for a quick clean make sure no algae or bacteria is growing in the lines or anything like that.

I think if I did the hose system with each cage having the hose out of the cage and they just have access to the nipples that could work. I tried building some with large coffee cans that were in the cage and the rabbits DESTROYED them in hours. It was like a mutiny 😅 that's definitely something to think about though building a system out of their reach.

@@LeahLynchBlog yeah it's what I use, but do have to keep out of their reach. We have Hotot and he tear through my line about 3different times. I used 1/2 wire barrier between him and the lines 😂

Oh rabbits. Can't live with them and can't live without them. 😅 I didn't try the lines thing and just tied up those coffee cans on the cages like you would water bottles. How do the lines hold up in the winter?

@@LeahLynchBlog I am in the south so we don't deal with solid frozen lines unless is cold cold for multiple days at a time (North Carolina). Usually they would be frosted early morning but tank doesn't freeze (big volume) which allows lines to thaw rather quickly. I had them semi freeze twice last winter (it was our first winter with the system)
