If he just said "we're necrophiliacs for the american dream" that would actually be kinda clever i have no idea why he wouldn't say that instead lmao
@nono-xm8yl10 ай бұрын
It really does boggle the mind how muddy the metaphors are. By saying 'p*dophiles', does he mean the American dream is young, or underdeveloped, and therefore fetishizing it is like p*dophilia? Is it a critique of how we've yet to live up to the American dream, or that the idea itself is flawed? This is what happens when you try to be witty in a song whose verses are otherwise made up of just pointing at things.

I thought it was him using the term to criticize conservatives who misuse the word against LGBTQ+ as a way to write off their identity/ place in society. Similar to the use of the F slur in American Idiot/ Holiday. It has shock value as a way to grab people and make them talk about it. Whether he achieved that goal is another matter lol. That was just my read on it.

The production and mixing is great on this record thanks to Rob Cavallo and Chris Lord-Alge. Rob Cavallo incidentally also produced albums like Dookie and American Idiot. Overall the album is pretty good though imo. There are duds and questionable lyrics but tbh Billie's vocal deliveries are some of his best, in particular his screams which he hasn't done properly in ages on an album. The production overall is tight and heavy with a nice balance between distorted guitar, drums, and bass. Also, Mike Dirnt's bass playing is clearly audible, has personality, and isn't restricted to boring root notes as it primarily was from American Idiot onwards. Not sure what people still want from Green Day? Originality is a questionable term anyways and if your style is based on 4-chord songs of course after 30+ years, such chord progressions will have parallels with other songs. This ain't a rock classic but a solid and genuine record for GD fans. Peace

Better than I expected for a recent Green Day album but the bar was set fairly low. The worst feeling that I think can come from a punk album is "meh" especially from bands that used to have some bangers back in the day. I did feel a bit awkward listening to "Father to a Son" which I actually liked but then I remembered who Billie Joe's kid was. Even though the song isn't explicitly about his own child, the stuff that went down with SWMRS would get stuck in my head if I hadn't read the lyrics and didn't have context for the song itself. I do agree with Brad that punk bands need to stop writing as if they are 20 years old but I also think the self-aware "we're in our mid-50s and still around" that bands like NOFX and now Blink are doing is kind of cringy. 4/10 - 5/10, maybe very light 6 for me if I get more used to it. Shame since Billie in the mid-90s was pretty good/ok at punk songwriting. Still not the worst.

That expression was my reaction to MGK and Trippie Redd's sad sack EP. 7/10 for me though I enjoy it.

The chord progression in Bobby Sox is the same as the one in 'abcdefu' by Gayle lol Also, "Do you wanna be my boyfriend"? My guy, you've been married for 30 years

LOLLLLL for real though

Homie, when he says “do you wanna be my boyfriend?” he’s singing it from his wife’s perspective, not his. It’s also coming from his earlier days from when him and his wife first met.

We also got an atrocious collaboration between Jason Derulo and *Michael Bublé* of all people. We need to suffer through this together.

Listening to strange days are here to say had me cackling because they stole 2 of their own songs for it. They used Basket case for the intro and 86 for the verses.

chorus of revolution radio is more similar than basket case for the intro imo. also the chorus is a lot like letterbomb... also its easily my favorite song off the album

Dookie is still the best thing greenday ever did and that was 30 years ago, yet they still are one of the biggest bands in the world. So let that be a lesson that you can be a very succesful musician with repetitive and boring songs
