Does your index finger's nail ever smash against the strings when you pick? Asking cause it happens to me and i'm afraid it could cause damage my nail when i'm picking hard

Sometimes it happens when I can't find a pick and I strum with my fingers, and it fucking hurts haha! I've half ripped off my nail a good few times. I'd suggest holding your pick a bit further away from the tip if it's becoming an issue, hopefully that'll keep your nails far away enough from the strings. I noticed it around 1:40, you are reaching over the top of the neck with your thumb, I've seen this technique before for hitting notes, just not sure if you are using it for a note or to deaden the E string

I think I'm using it to deaden the E while I hit the higher strings. I do sometimes hook my thumb over to hit notes when I'm playing guitar though. Hope that helps dude :)
