The Green Mountain Grill Daniel Boone is quite the Pellet Grill, and in this video we go from setup to startup. Then we get it to temperature for its initial run to bake off any paint or products from shipping.

I bought this as my first propane grill. It's been a fun, learning experience kzbin.infoUgkxCx5fHawkK9OoV-ojFrY8JLnZrFwAmvUt . I think it's a bit too pricey after looking at other grills, but it wasn't hard to put together and it works really well. I love the side burner option for heating food during a power outage. I have an electric stove and live in the South (Hurricane season), so this was a bonus. I also bought a cover for it and it has protected it nicely (the Char Broil All-Season Grill Cover 3-4 Burner: Large). Every few grill sessions, I take the rack (or grate) and burner covers off and clean them with a non-abrasive scrubby and mild soap. I wipe the excess off of the bottom as well, taking care to avoid the gas and pilot lines.

I "actually" bought one yesterday! Did a "burn-in" at 350 for 30 Min. Think i'm going to love it!

I appreciate the full setup as I bought a used one and had no idea how to set the plates. Thank you. One day I hope to get a bigger one.

I bought one of these 11 years ago and it is just now starting to have a little bit of rust through on the bottom and it has been a solid grill. Fixing to buy a new one without the Wi-Fi. You can’t go wrong with one of these.

Love how you see actually zero smoke actually. Like actually these grills are a pain in the ass. The temp control and amoke output isnt consistent.

Great start up video. I love this grill, it has a lot of great features including the nice wheels you mentioned. I think one of the best features is the really long cord that allows you to move the grill freely.

great review! I was at our local BBQ store that sold a lot of pellet grills and the Manager who is a Professional Griller recommended this unit over Traeger. looks like a nice grill!

Consensus from other owners seems to be it is best to not go from 500 down to fan in one step. Recommendations are to take it down to 250-350 and then go to fan.

I bought one of these ~ 2 years ago. First couple weeks it was great. Since then I have had a series of problems. Wifi doesn't connect, trips when plugged into GFCI plugs or just randomly starts powering down. Now a gear in the auger motor stripped out. Ordering a new one. My experience might be an anomaly. Or it might not. Hard to tell as the GMG website doesn't have a customer reviews section. That should have been my first red flag.

Going into my 3rd year with my Daniel Boone model. The grill I received had a dud computer but they promptly sent me a new one for free of course. Since then, zero issues.

I am sure this machine will do a fine job for a couple of years. You better keep it covered and in the garage when not in use or you are going to have moisture ruin the electronics and the smoker will become a rust bucket. When you are ready and have figured out that you really like being a chef, then you can move on up to the Mack Daddy, The Big Green Egg. Just add lump wood, start fire, set the temp with two vents, add smoking chips for flavor, put probe in meat, close the lid and go into the house and watch The Andy Griffith Show. By the way, I believe Barnie has been smoking Aunt Bee. Will never rust, no drop chord and guaranteed for life against any flaws in manufacturing. You can low and slow the meat, sear any meat you feel needs to be seared with temps up to 1000 degrees if you like. Bake bread with or without smoke, pies, or heat it up for pizza. After all, it ia a pizza oven anyway. I have had my BGE for over 15 years and still going like a new one. Nothing to wear out. Chef Jerry

This is comparing apples to oranges. I have both a kamado and a gmg pellet grill. Flavour from the kamado is amazing but convenience from the gmg is also amazing. The difference in convenience is not slight. It takes about an hour for the temp to settle on a kamado and if you use a fan setup, you lose efficiency.

I can't decide on this grill or the pit boss 700. The pit boss doesn't have the wifi but I've got a wifi grill thermometer. Both seem like better options than traeger which used to be good grills until mfg moved to China.

Just did initial startup on my GMG and initial start up took almost 60 mins to get to 120. I don’t think this is normal. And lots of pellets sitting burnt in the pot. Any recommendations?
@spotlightinspections
@spotlightinspections 4 жыл бұрын
if you haven't gotten it figured out yet. The GMG app details start up procedure, as does the website. I am no professional, but start up to 120 degrees is not normal, mine only takes 12 minutes or so. 1. prime the firebox with a handful of pellets. 2. put heat shield in and adjust to be correct for your model. 3. install grease tray. Pay attention here because if installed reverse of the way it's supposed to it will really mess with temps and how the probe detects temperature. there are clear pictures of it's orientation on the website. 4. chimney cap needs to be barely threaded in or you can even take it off during cooks. 5. plug grill in and turn power switch on, display will read the word "off", press the up arrow, and this starts the start up process. it will count 0-1-2-3. Starting from scratch like that, once it changes from 0 to 1 turn the grill off at the switch, then turn it back on a few seconds later. push the "up" arrow again to have the grill start up again and let it go through it's full cycle. It will reach and hold 150 degrees in 10-15 minutes usually. GMG has lots of instructional videos on their channel, and website both. Happy grilling

I would not advise anyone to buy a GM grill, I bought this very model and was extremely disappointed with it and sold it to some poor sole after a few months. It just did not live up to the hype, temperature control was eratic, it leaked smoke from everywhere, lots of gaps around the poorly fitting lid which also contributed to the temp issues. Poorly designed grease management system and unreliable WiFi connection. Food cooked on it turned out dry and overcooked after wasting an expensive brisket on it I sold it. Avoid at all costs and go for the Weber Smokefire which is what I will be ordering on launch day.
