When he is injured and unable to work, his oldest daughter takes over, begins using new techniques, and makes the farm a success. The father admits that the new ways are better. Ugh. The middle sister reminds me of my older middle-child sister with the narcissistic personality. Good work standing up to her, Susan! The characters, in general, are exceptionally realistic in this little gem. "I guess even an ugly man can look in a mirror and find satisfaction..." Might have to use that line some time.

I took care of mine also, and she was almost totally blind and couldn't hear, and I like you found movies & music she enjoyed. She was 92. She's passed now, but I cherish those moments I had with her. I miss her sweet smile, laughter, and tears we shared together. Hope your mother is doing well. Make memories now, for you'll cherish them later. And I love the farm also.A great place to raise a family!

You know, I just recognized who the little girl is, in this movie. Natalie Wood -- oh, I just know I'm going to enjoy this one. Nothing like watching real movies. Not like todays. I'm just passed the part where this man is telling the kids they're afraid of their father. Walter B. I can't remember his last name, but, close enough. He played on the: Real McCoy's. Another find actor. His character is this movie, he seems to be a good family man. A strict father. And, a bit stubborn. When his daughter & the man tries to tell him why he shouldn't cut the trees down -- well, it just went in one ear & out the other. Never you mind. I'm afraid the man might be right and their land will flood or worse. I felt so bad for his small daughter. The one who wanted two little lamb. Well, so be it. It looks like it's going to be a good movie. I hope you all enjoy. Well, the ending was as I has expected it to be. But, at least the old man admitted his stubbornness, & selfish ways and everything turned out alright.

Thanks for this good movie, this one is almost like Our Vines have Tender Grapes, with Natalie and Butch Jenkins getting caught in a torrent of water, love Walter Brennan he was a good actor, and decent man. He was very funny in The Real Mccoys, also Milburn Stone , another decent man, loved him as Doc in Gunsmoke, we need more of these kinds of movies. They don't make them, like this anymore! Love the end, where the father, really takes a good hard look at himself, & shares that with his family. A very touching scene.

Actually it wasn't this bridge scene that gave NW a fear of water, although it didn't help. It was her mother that instilled that in her through her own neurotic fears,way before this scene was filmed. This was the scene where Natalie hurt her wrist badly and her mother didn't believe in doctors so she never took her for medical treatment. That little part of the bone at the end of the outer side of the wrist, hers just protruded outward, it wasn't that bad but that is why you never after that saw NW without a bracelet on her left wrist, she was so self conscience about it. She took it off for the bath tub scene in Spendour, but she had to be talked into it and you really cannot see it. Seems like Natalie had so many movie scenes with water and she was a tough cookie for doing those scenes. Any movie you see her in with water, she is totally terrified from what her co-stars have said. That being said, great movie!!! Thanks for posting it! Natalie stole the show.

And it was that bridge scene that caused Natalie Wood to develop her lifelong fear of water: a fear that took her life thirty-two years later. I don't know why the director kept filming that scene; even though she had already fallen into the water and nearly drowned. The studio should have been sued for that!
