I enjoyed your walk . It's nice to see people are still interested in the history of our town. The four terraced houses on Greenacres Rd, immediately below the cemetery have very interesting keystones above their front doors - each a carved persons head and all different - worth a look (you can view them on Google maps Street View)

@@SarahsUKGraveyard No, I don't know why the housebuilders added such an elaborate touch to these houses. I haven't seen any other terraced house in Oldham with such features. Nice though.

That building on corner of top st used to be a shop. I remember it being one when i was young! Must have been 1988-1990 it was coverted to a house. Im sure it was once a co op too! I was born in 84 and lived near there and remember going in it when it was a shop. There used to be a lovely pie shop bottom of top st also on redgrave st. Does anybody also remember the shop on constantine / wellyhole st what was demolished for the new houses? I used to go for ice creams all the time there! :) The shop on raper st was known as phils off lience too. It was packed with alcahol and always had an old musty smell lol

@@tiggytomtom8307 I used to get the strap from her several times a week for years in the mid 60’s . After a while I got used to it so it didn’t hurt as much , which angered her to no end. Just a little further up greenaceres Rd Passed the Greenacres pub on the left is a detached cottage (285 Greenacres Rd) and this is an example if how the houses looked in the area over 200 years ago. A beautiful Grade II listed building , you cant miss it. You just misssed it as you turned the right onto greenacres Rd, it was on your left. Great vids by the way.

Hi Sarah When my grandad Cave was alive we used go down those steps to the coach and horses for his afternoon pint, they lived on Lindon ave Greenacres. I'm sure they called them the 39 steps. The cemetery entrance looks sad, a few of my family are buried in there. I remember Phil he was a legend i dont think he was ever closed you could knock on any time of day or night. Hope your well. Andy.

That brought back a lot of memories Sarah , Thanks. Used to play in the pill boxes( machine gun nests) at the back of the cemetery. They were used to guard the prisoners in Glenn mill which was still standing when I was young. Sister Mary Malaky, now that name brings shivers up my spine. Hi Sarah, so I know that ‘the old stores’ was a small shop that I know had sweets in i would walk past it at the end of my paper round and sometimes buy a chocolate bar. Greenacres cemetery has a clock on the wall by the entrance I think it might be covered up by the sheeting. I used to walk past it everyday. Also me & my old mate Danny was good friends with Phil who had the shop we helped him to store some beer in Vulcan mill before it went up in flames ☹️ he used to cover the underside of his car with old engine oil and it stopped it from rusting
