As the former colonial power, the UK holds primary responsibility for the defense and protection of Hong Kong. It is disheartening to observe that the UK appears to be lukewarm in its support for Hong Kong. It seems that the UK prioritizes economic interests over the safeguarding of freedom and democracy in the region. Hong Kongers may now find themselves looking to the US for support rather than the UK.
