I loved your video! Is there a chance you could add a list of the sources? I'd like to make more structured notes with references. Thank you!

Hi Jane - I am an art historian, so my years of study are the sources for this explanation. If you're looking for a book, you could try one called "Abstract Expressionism," put out by Phaidon (somewhere in the last ten years I think). Or you could try one of the many books on Greenberg himself. Happy studying!

@@angelawescottbyuuvusnowcol6509 Thank you for the guidance! Really appreciate it. I find it hard to find quotes in large amounts of text, especially with someone as Greenberg whose work is spread over so many essays. I never know where to start 😁 I'll check the book you've recommended too. Thank you!

@@JaneDoe-pp2qy So true. He was such a prolific writer, so I have really condensed things here. Happy reading!

Thanks for your piece on Greenberg !!! Adorno said similar , though dealing with modern composed, that music is most radical when only concerned with its formal procedures . Composers since second Viennese school has nothing to do with "fragmented society" etc they love sound in the same way Cezanne etc loved texture

I love that you bring up music. There are so many correlations between artists and musicians in the twentieth century.

Could I ask you something on that part: "music is most radical when only concerned with its formal procedures". Did he mean that music should not have references in the actual world, meaning not have references on society, politics etc?
