For the 6th season, they were also filming in a different location. Hence why in the first episode of season 6, the roof collapsed destroying the cafeteria so they had to rebuild it (this was the producers way of explaining why the cafeteria looks different.

From a writing and pacing perspective, which is what the show excelled at, season 4 is a disaster. It felt the same but the soul was barely hanging on, like a lingering fart. S5 was rough and kind of dark (visually) but otherwise was such a great return to form. S6 was a more matured and grown up version of the show that it’s own distinct flavor that I think was absolutely excellent. It’s definitely different, and I know a lot of people loved the show for its “groove” bc season 3 was far more loved by the overall fan base than me, but S6 is beautiful and has great character growth and some of the weirdest/funniest jokes and most effortlessly funny writing of all the whole series
