Wow, I just made my ( first ) own equation for problem at 4:09:08 I paused the video & came up with 7(x+(x+2)+(x+4)) = 168 After watching your explanation I see & understand why you chose the middle x. You eliminated a step because you knew top & bottom would cancel each other. I made 2 mistakes, but I caught & fixed them before turning it in for grade.

The best course I have ever seen. The teacher explains everything vary well that if you are a 5 years old kid, you can still follow. At the top of that, if you visit their website, they have additional resources, worksheetse, etc. I just love this course, and after completing this course, i will begin with "Algebra 2" and then "College Algebra". I have to say, the abundant use of negative signs is really whipping my butt into shape. Early on it was the step I forgot or overlooked the most, but now I'm so worried about them that I quadruple check all my signs. Super effective teaching technique and, again, one element that puts your classes above the rest.

I searched KZbin high and low for help. Couldn’t find or understand specific concepts in organic chemistry tutor or khan academy. I passed an ASVAB in high school, passed national my pharmacy technician’s exam, and now I’m continuing my education. I scored high in college math assessments, but I when I got to a high level math class, it made no sense. I refused to stay there, against my advisors advice. I’m sick of winging it! I wanted to learn math at the lowest level they offered. Tonight I literally said, “God please help me.” He led me to this channel. Your reaction is how I felt. A deep sigh of relief. I can sleep in peace tonight knowing, someone is explaining things from scratch. My math professor rushed through everything for two semesters now. By the Grace I’ve managed to pass his crazy exams. It makes me upset that KZbin has to teach me, when we’re paying him. I’m over it. Thank God for this channel.

Greene, you are such a king, dude. Kinda weird story but I've always been real interested in physics but afraid of math. I did okay in school but felt like it didn't really make total sense to me. Fast forward much later and I get super interested in logic, formal and informal, read some books on it, take notes and try to understand it. So I do this thought experiment to try and play around with what I've learned and think I've understood. The idea was to create a universe model with physics based on a minimum of core, logical assumptions, a minimum of elements (like stuff and forces) and try to ignore what I know about real physics. I came to some really neat conclusions early on but I've hit a roadblock as the complexity evolves. My math weak as heck. So I resolved at 28y old to relearn math and Greene has been so dang good. I feel like I'm really learning how to think about math at a real, fundamental level and not just memorizing equations to determine how much Felipe's 57 pineapples will come to at the checkout. So here I am at my age learning math from pre-algebra up to calculus (hopefully) and so far? Actually enjoying it. Thanks, Greene.

Quick comment here, during checking on one of the questions of solving linear systems with substitution I was so frustrated when my checking resulted in wrong!!! I was so used getting a right answer to the point I forgot there can be "No solution" on problems!

I would use an SAT workbook as a guide. The video may be helpful for an overall understanding of basic algebra, but to score high on the SAT, you need to work and get comfortable with those types of problems.

If you are having trouble with fractions, I would consider doing a full fraction review. It would probably only take a week or so. Do the lessons on this page in order from #26 to #38 greenemath.com/Prealgebra.html#fractions There is a practice test that will regenerate with full solutions for each topic. Just hit the generate new test button. I would keep practicing until you can get all of them correct. Click the menu bar at the top if you need to disable the ads, the button should be put to grey. This will disable them from appearing on the page if you don't already have a blocker enabled. Good luck!

I like the lial Intermediate Algebra for the Algebra 2 course. You can get Schaum's Intermediate Algebra if you need a workbook. For Geometry, you can use Larson Geometry. You can find all books by just searching for the name followed by pdf on google.

I would start with an elementary algebra book or algebra 1. A college algebra book covers everything but it really goes through a lot of content quickly. If you start with algebra 1, when you get to college algebra it will be much easier to digest the material.

A vertical line has an undefined slope. Since the x-values for any two points on the line are the same, the slope formula gives you division by zero which is undefined. A horizontal line has a slope of 0. The y-values for any two points are the same and the x-values will be different. This gives you 0 in the numerator of the slope formula and a non-zero denominator, which leads to a slope of 0.

Subtracting away 36 is the same as adding -36. In other words, a - b = a + (-b) That minus sign has to come with the number. 6z + 3z - 36 - 21 + 5 = 6z + 3z + (-36) + (-21) + 5 You can go back and forth between the two forms.
