From the leaves of the forest pineapple tree I have knitted triangular cakes, hexagonal cakes. I have prepared meat, glutinous rice in advance. All created very delicious and beautiful cakes

When i was a child my mother also knows how to knit and put rice inside and sold it to the town away from our home.. it was one of our livelihood aside from the farm....thats why i love to watch this green forest life vlog because its real and i can truly realate everthing....but until now i dont know how to knit not like you robert a master of everything when it comes in farming and survival skills.....love to watch your videos..

You must have paid very close attention to your mother's handy work when you were a boy. Such an amazing skill that few appreciate enough these days. It makes me smile watching you live free in the green forest, utilizing skills you learned from the elders and have honed to a fine level. When I was young, I preferred city life, and the 'finer' things. Now that I'm older, my children are grown, I am much preferring homesteading activities, a quiet, peaceful, useful and practical lifestyle. The idea of getting dressed up, going shopping for frivolous things, and wasting money/time on impressing myself/others seem pathetic to me at this stage.

It looks like it’s hard to make the wrapper for the sweet rice . It’s time consuming whereas if you just wrap it with banana leaf , it saves you time. Anyway the outcome is the same once it’s cooked. However it’s nice to see the traditions that your mom taught you. Honestly I applaud you Robert for showing us the art of making sweet rice cakes.Thank you for teaching us the art of leaves weaving.

To our indigenous people, the Dayak of Borneo, the art of weaving is only the lady handiwork & men don’t do it. Hi Robert I am absolutely thrilled that you released this video today, right in the middle of the 3 day dragon boat festival that we (Chinese) celebrate yearly. It is a significant festival and I wonder if the Vietnamese celebrate this festival too. The way you prepared the cake wrapping (Teochew Chinese call it bak chang) looks like a marvellous cross between weaving and origami. Either your mum is a master teacher or you are a star pupil, the result is magnificent. I was mesmerized watching the whole process, which was so intricate. Despite you showing us slowly twice how to prepare the wrapping, I still wouldn't know what to do and where to start. In Malaysia the Teochew Chinese use bamboo leaves to wrap the bak chang into the shape similar to one of yours. I thought that was difficult, but compared to your method, it is a real piece of cake. The cake looked so delicious. I wish you could make loads, freeze them and export them for sale in the UK. I would pay anything for them. Thank you again for posting this video. It takes me back to my childhood days in Malaysia.

Robert I have one suggestion instead of cooking the sliced banana stalk just mix it with rice bran put water and give it to the pigs. Anyway they’re wild boara boars they eat banana stalks in the wild. when i was still a kid in the Philippines wefeed our pigs with banana stalks with rice bran. thank you

We do it too here in the Phils, called locally as poso, famously knowned as "hanging rice" only its plain rice, no meat added. So amazing how you weaved.
