This multi-faceted project will adopt a layered, area-based approach to make a gradual and integrated investment that will protect and enhance the livelihoods and economic means of poor and marginalized groups. Unpredictable climate-induced crisis affects the livelihoods strategies and sources of extreme poor and marginalized groups. These groups will benefit from enhanced disaster risk management systems, including community contingency planning, effective early warning systems and two-way linkages with national-level authorities.
Groups will also see investments in their livelihoods, supporting them to diversify their livelihood strategies with relevant inputs and capacity strengthening. Restoration of community infrastructures, such as social, water, and rangeland conservation, on the other hand, will strengthen the affected communities’ capacities to prepare, respond and adopt to crisis. Producer groups will be organized to form associations and cooperatives to establish linkages with key markets in the region and to advocate for more investment and policy changes from financial service providers and government authorities. Women and youth, while benefiting from other activities, will also be specifically supported to claim more space to contribute to peacebuilding and to be part of the key decisions affecting their lives.
