I love the mortise and tendon joinery on your kayak. They make for one tough and durable kayak.

Great job! I am making the same Kayak and you are much more crafty with yours. Looks absolutely impeccable. If maybe you could tell sometime how it is to paddle it.

really nice. I noticed the seating surface is on the outside under the ribs - which is a strong choice

That's a great job! The boat is awesome!, I'd like to know how you like it's performance on flat water, and also on bid water (larger waves). The singing sounds like Suomi/(Finnish):Though I can't read or speak it,I wish I could-it's a great Language,and culture!(I'm biased-my Mother'sGrandparents came from Finland to Michigan,and Minnesota,in the late !800's)I'd suggest using some Finnish Surf music in any future videos!(I know several great Surf Bands are in Finland!) = Surf IS AwesomeMusic!

Why did you do your lashings continuous. If the the lashing breaks it threatens all your joints. Why not lash and tie off and then move to next rib and lash etc. The second question is why not add an outrigger for extra stability? I don't see the traditional Inuits do it either which given the fact that they didn't know how to swim seems kind of strange not to have an outrigger.

***** try to roll with an outrigger... :)
@orangekitten94089 жыл бұрын
Yeah but who wants to roll in ice cold water. And not all who roll end up rolling all the way back up. Quite a few eskimos died back in the day.

Who wants to ? Yes it's cold but it is fast, way way faster than floating around and make a re entry. :)

+Cap Marvel An outrigger would really make navigating through narrow ice channels rather impossible.

Too much primary stability. Primary stability keeps the boat flat to the water, which is great when the water is flat; in heavy waves, that just means the boat gets flipped (and then you are dead). Inuit kayaks are built with low primary stability, but higher secondary stability, so that one can stay vertical even in steep waves (i.e. by tipping the boat into the wave surface).

jajaja, estaba buscando kayaks artesanales, y el librito de instrucciones me dice que esto es de Ikea. Mala cosa para mi gusto.

Beautiful work but it looks a touch heavy by today's standards?
@timothylongmore73254 жыл бұрын
Very heavy by ancient standards as well. When I first started building things I tended to "overbuild". This boat looks plenty rugged and well framed , but yeah , looks pretty heavy.
