For starters you have freedom of speech, right to bear arms, where every country on the planet has stolen these rights from its citizens. As an American, I can say. there’s not a single American that wants to be a citizen of Denmark. Think about, read the constitution. It’s the strongest language in the law out there, but it doesn’t mean our government has tried to force us to do things we don’t want to. They’re afraid of all the guns we have, and they have no way of getting them from us, and that is why we are still free. Trump is an honest person. @@scottberry5266 Because of the big sheet of ice covering the place. Duh. It's receding now (climate change), you can do more exploration. It won't be easy, but with rare Earth metals hitting $4000/kg, yes, someone will take a stab at it. Canada mines north of the Arctic Circle already. It's not fun, but it's possible. There's something called "The Stock Market" you should look into. It's where people raise capital for speculative enterprises, even very difficult ones, from investors. One publicly traded company called 80 Mile is poking around Greenland now, hoping to find something. Costs about 1/2 penny a share if you've got an extra $100 laying around might be fun to see what happens with it. And there's fishing grounds and almost certainly hydrocarbons to boot. Also, if Denmark wanted to be shed of Greenland they could have done that long ago. The 50k Greenlanders have been the ones complaining loudest because Denmark has kept them as a territory, but doesn't seem to care much about them as a people. Finally, yes, Greenland is about 1/3 National Park, which means it's 2/3 "open for business" as the kids say. You might want to think about doing a little research before you post things.

Well, that is all sweet and symbolic. Turning to the real world. Both Russia and China have ICBM's pointed at the west. Russia is claiming the whole Arctic Ocean to get a better stance for attack. Denmark can't defend Greenland in the modern era. Stop with the sentimental images from yeas ago. The grown-ups are in charge now. No one but the U.S. can effectively counter the Russian and Chinese moves. We are simply going to do what we have to do to protect our national security. Historically and according to old international treaties, it is more Norway or Holland than Denmark. France managed to arrange things after Napoleon's defeat in order to maintain its influence through Denmark. Danes of Scandinavian ethnicity - blondes with blue eyes - do not live in Greenland - they are not allowed to take lucrative positions because east Asians-budget workers have settled there. For context, the US has been trying to buy Greenland since before President Trump was born. It is brought up now because putin is making moves in the arctic. Greenland is of strategic importance to the US... and Denmark. Because they would need our help to defend Greenland.

The US have had a military presence in Greenland since WWII, not to defend Greenland, but to defend the US. We have in addition to that had an agreement about US bases in Greenland since 1951, an agreement Denmark always has been and still will be willing to adjust to the development in World security situations.

As a Dane (and a Trump supporter) i cant figure out why the Trump administration suddenly is so interrested in Greenland, since 1951 US has a strong military strategic presence in the North - a radar facility at Thule and a Airbase at Sndr. Strømfjord. Denmark spends 0,7 billion $ supporting Greenland a year (administration, hospitals, schools etc.) so the population cannot be "independent", further the Greenlanders has for many years tried to attract mining companies to buy their minerals but it has all been a dissapointment because of the costs. What does Trump (US) wannt that they not already have?

Lot of arrogant Americans in the comment section. So hers the deal Greenland HAVE kontrol over their own country, they are in the Danish commonwealth and are protected under the Danish military and kontrol around 1.2 of the Danish seats in the government in Denmark. They are given a a little over billion per year to run their country from Denmark and Denmark isn't controlling the ressources in Greenland. They are liked by the Danish, and the Royal house have a special place for Greenland and visits each year. You are not "saving" some exploited people in need of saving, you are just trying to take land from Natives that you already have lied too and made sick. You have smuggle nukes into their country, after you promised not to, and then lost some of them. You fired locals to hire Americans instead, after you promised to make jobs for them on the bases you have there. And you left material around that made locals sick after you also removed them from their home. You are not the hero you think you are in this story.
