Gamma Ray is one of the rare bands I've seen live that understands how to properly EQ the room. Lower the bass and up the mid and high frequencies=clean, loud, powerful sound. Lot of bands turn up the bass so high that it sounds muffled, mushy like shit.

It seems like Kiske and Sheepers keep tagging along to whatever band Kai moves on to. first he was in Helloween, then Kiske was their singer after kai left, and when kiske was kicked out he joined Gamma Ray. Kinda weird.

I know I am way late, but I have just discovered these guys and I have been on a trip through KZbin watching every video I can find and learning about the band's history. Kai truly is a Metal God! I know in recent years his voice has shown some wear and tear, even so this man is simply amazing. Sure, lots of guys can get up there and sing with a hafway decent voice but Kai has mad skills on the guitar and his voice is so uniquely perfect. Another thing that I am enjoying about his performances is the fact that he is always sooo Happy. In front of a huge crowd is definitely where this man was meant to be. Love you, Kai!!!

+MrDR7no I have always thought of it like that, but with Running Wild instead of Stratovarius; they are as old as Helloween and Blind Guardian and also began with a "speed metal" sound which later developed into power metal (and they are also German). Don't misunderstand me, I love Stratovarius, but they began a little later and used keyboards, which earlier bands didn't use (at least not as a permanent instrument). Anyway, just my opinion.

Abelardo Elizondo Exactly because of their extensive use of Keyboards Stratovarius are a lot more influential on the european power metal movement than Running Wild or say Rage.Running Wild's early sound was more reminiscent of American speed metal bands which were already around since early 80s

man, 2003 was a great year for the Rays. they released that awesome 2 CD live album, "Skeletons In The Closet". Helloween (which i´m also a big fan of) was not facing a good time in their history, though (rabbits don´t come easy...)
