I really love Greenpath, one of my if not my favourite area of the game. Everything from the birds flying away, over the hanging vines, flowing water-/acidfalls to the much bigger enemy variety (and for the first time going through the recurring appearance of that one character), together with the constant noise of flapping wings or acid and *especially* the music just make this place feel so lush and alive and I just love being there. Such a contrast to the comparatively dull and empty Forgotten Crossroads as well... (Not saying the Forgotten Crossroads are bad or anything. They are a great Tutorial area, but they just don't have that much interesting going on or a theme/setting that stands out as the other areas do)

It's certainly filled with much more life! I do like it a lot more than the Crossroads as well :p The enemies are harder but that adds to the fun too

also this video just reminded me that there is a genshin metroidvania that's basically hollow knight. i think it's still playable on hoyolab. i would upload a link but idk if i'm allowed to as a comment. would be interesting to see you play that after you complete hollow knight! (kinda to tie both games together)

I don't know why you thought you had to talk to Elderbug in the beginning but talking to him actually isn't a bad idea. First things first: NPCs in the game have multiple different dialogues if you repeatedly talk to them. If they repeat their last dialogue you know they have nothing new to say. For Elderbug that would be asking you to keep him company by sitting on the bench. If he doesn't say that, he has new things to say. And there is something interesting: Elderbug has a kind of built in "hint" system as to where you should, or rather could, head next. The game does direct you in a certain direction anyway for the beginning, but after a certain point it opens up a lot, and if you ever feel lost then or even before that, he will hint at the next area to which you just got access with the last key item or where a key item is hidden in a place you might not have been able to reach before.
