YES! I’ve been waiting for this. Watching Marie crawl out of her bin as a baby brought tears to my eyes. She was an amazing little girl right from the start and she’s only gotten better! She’s no longer confined to the playpen when out of her enclosure because I’ve snake proofed the room they’re in. So she has the whole room now. She’s so bold and curious and I can’t imagine my life without her. Thank you Bob, for producing such a beautiful animal. She is much loved!! 🐍❤️🐍

I loved this update of last year‘s clutch! I really enjoy your content for this exact reason, Bob. To me, your videos are especially helpful because you place an emphasis on each individual snake’s personality and care. As a prospective ball python keeper, it can be very difficult to get an idea of what life is like with a pet ball python if all I see are breeder-oriented videos tossing hatchlings on a table and talking about genetics. This is what I prefer to see: entertaining content that also educates about how to give these animals a healthy and enriching life. Thank you so much!

That's crazy! And a pretty bold move to do that with live prey 😄 That kind of thing can't be too common. Although her sister Tiger Lily has done it a couple times as well if I put a rodent against her neck.

I honestly can’t choose between Tiger Lily and Dolly! Tiger Lily has fantastic coloring and is just a stunning snake, but I adore Dolly’s calico expression and head stamp. They’re both adorable. Ball pythons are cute their entire lives but babies and yearlings are a whole other level of cute. I’m slow-growing my own yearling ball python and she’s just a normal but she’s amazing.

I believe the pictures of them are still on there. Have a great week!!
@GreenRoomPythons2 жыл бұрын
No problem, happy to shout you out. You can breed related snakes - it often happens in the wild. Line breeding works well for reptiles but will eventually downgrade the genetics of the animal. Its good to mix new bloodlines in.
@panq89042 жыл бұрын
For COI % I believe breeding brothers and sisters from the same clutch is supposed to be the highest in terms of causing inbreeding depression. Pairing offspring back to parents is actually seen as better, with uncles/aunts to nieces/nephews and/or half-siblings to half-siblings being better still. A few experiments in the 80's on Diamond Rattlesnakes and Green Iguanas found evidence of inbreeding depression, cranial scale deformations and infertility respectively, within just 1-3 generations of close inbreeding. Unfortunately there's been no specific research on inbreeding depression in ball pythons yet but it does go to show it's possible they're more susceptible to it than we're told to believe. Since we don't know current advice seems to be: If you decide to do it keep a very close eye on the COI of your stock, and if infertility/low immune systems, etc, do show up, inbreeding depression could be a possible culprit. From the other breeders I've talked to, as long as you outbreed a generation afterwards you probably won't run into issues, but many seem to go by the rule that full sibling to full sibling is a no-go zone.

Dolly and Tigerlily are both super pretty. But if I had to choose, (and only since you asked us lol) my pick would be Dolly. I'm starting to absolutely love the look of calicos, and she's a wonderful example of the look. Obviously, I like her mom too for the same reason. Haha, I should not have added a new morph to my growing list of 'favorite' ones, but alas I have anyway. And it's mildly ridiculous, because as I consider getting a second snake (yeah... that's a thing that's inevitably bound to happen eventually) the choice only became harder!

When do you start assist feeding ? I have a baby she weighs 105 grams, she’s had one meal with me (I had to place it in and shut the light off and she eventually ate it) she’s refused her last two feeds, doesn’t want anything to do with it. Will crawl right over it lol she’s so little I worry about her losing weight. All my other snakes eat fine so I’m kind of at a loss.
@panq89042 жыл бұрын
I she's eaten at least once with you before i'd try to play the waiting game with her a little longer, Ball Pythons can go quite a while without losing serious weight. I'd keep an eye on her weight and only resort to assisting if absolutely necessary, if she's already developed a healthy hunting/feeding response, assist feeding could negatively affect it.

@@DTAever From the sounds of it she could possibly be an insecure eater. I have a girl who's similar and I struggled with her being weird about feeds for the first few years. Thankfully she's doing really well now that I have the method she wants down, but here are the rules I generally follow with her: I drop feed really hot feeders, directly into a hide for her to find. If I feed her outside her hide she will strike and 'kill' it, but it leaves her feeling exposed, so she drops it after. I give her really secure, tight fitting hides, i've actually had to DIY ones for her specifically thanks to this lol And finally, if she doesn't take one size of feeder I try a size smaller, I found she was much more likely to eat her rat if she felt like she could finish it at a quicker pace. I hope your girl eats again soon for you! Finding each individuals quirks with food can take so much trail and error with snakes XD

It's better to judge body condition. You can't really tell if a snake is over or under weight by their age/weight. Your snake is still growing so I'm sure they're fine but feeding every 10-14 days at this point would be healthy for them if you're not already doing it.
