Greensleeves is an English folk tune published first in 1580. This tune is originally a secular tune that was (potentially) depicting a young woman who was very... active, or perhaps a lady of the night.
What Child is This? Is perhaps the most popular adaptation to the melody, being written in the mid 1800's. William Chatterton Dix, the writer of this tune, became very ill and nearly died, which caused him to have a spiritual awakening, and write this song.
