In my opinion, key to battery is make sure it will be enough for entire yard and then some.

Thanks, it has been a work in progress over the years. When we purchased the land, it was overgrown and had multiple delapidated structures we had to tear down.

Thanks for the excellent review. If you get the mower stuck in the future, please don't use a hitch ball to pull on as it is dangerous, and try to use a recovery strap or rope if possible. There are many products designed for recovery that fit into the receiver that you can attach to and are much safer. There are many good videos on KZbin about these recovery products and how to safely use them.

WONDERFUL ! ! Just got a bunch of EGO products actually. I did some research, etc, on both brand products, and they are both great GAS, OIL, FILTER, and EMISSIONS FREE options. Well done, SALUTE ! !

I agree and almost went with the EGO EV but in the end, having more than enough battery capacity made the decision for me.

Did you buy from a dealer that has a Greenworks showroom and stocks parts? What happens when something electronically goes wrong? How long will your machine be down?
@Joel-Melody9 ай бұрын
@rickr2029 I bought from this dealer. www.sohars.com/?gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwltKxBhDMARIsAG8KnqV_AkRORnjhug7000FMhaFI8vEljwSrfq6tUTeIH8tPwu5j2niteM0aAsmsEALw_wcB They are a Greenworks commercial dealer and have a guy on staff dedicated to maintenance and repair of Ego and Greenworks products. I've not had to tap into those services yet, so I have no experience with turnaround time on parts orders.
@rickr20299 ай бұрын
@@Joel-Melody yeah...thanks for the link! That was nice of you! The dealer looks like a regular dealer selling mainly gas power equipment. I bought my Greenworks commercial used for commercial, from a similar dealer. They don't stock parts and it's a lengthy ordeal just to find out how to get replacement blades. They will have to order them and of course pass the $25 shipping fee on to me. They said they have had another unit waiting a "Super" long time to receive warranty approval. Have you tried calling Greenworks customer service? Oh boy?!?!?! So yeah, I am worried if one of the wheel motors, or a circuit board goes out and leaves me down for a while. I'm feeling I should have paid more attention to the reviews. But I thought there would be dealers maybe in the North Northeast or the west coast that would have a showroom of Greenworks products. Because that's important. And comforting!!!

@rickr2029 Being a residential user, having to wait some isn't a big concern since I can fall back on my John Deer gas mower. I definitely understand your concerns since your livelihood depends on the uptime of your equipment. Companies like Greenworks and others need to do better, or they will stifle market growth.

checked the specs, this thing is a beast. weight is not a problem, I would consider this comparable to a diesel zeo turn, like kubota 1211, 1611 or john deere z994r, z997r, all are much heavier than this and prices are similar. And this thing appears to be winning, good choice.
@Joel-Melody7 ай бұрын
it's weight is only an issue when ground is really saturated. The power tends to begin slipping wheels before you realize it's happening. Tread fills with mud and bam, your stuck. The traction control has gotten me out a few times this Spring but other times had to use Jeep to pull it out. Getting stuck this season has only occurred while cutting irregular surface field and pasture. I agree it is a beast!

It would be neat if these were designed to be charged on a CCS charge port so you could use a Level 2 EV charger which are becoming more common these days. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Hi Joel. Thanks for this comprehensive review - it's been a great help! Down here in Australia, Greenworks have only just brought these commercial beasts in this year (2024). We're currently considering the 60" Optimus Z 18kW for our property. We're on almost 9 acres, but with 4 acres of lawns and gardens .. and I want to cut right down on mowing time. Currently it takes us almost 5 hours to do the lawns on our 48" (petrol) Husqvarna tractor-type ride on mower. I reckon if we get this beast, it will cut it down to around 2 hours. They brought the 60" 24kW model out to us yesterday for a demo - very impressive! We would be like you though - probably only using less than 50% of the battery each time. Have you had any issues in recharging it back up from there, or do you just leave it and use it again before recharging - so running the battery way down before recharging, in other words? And have you had a go at using any other Greenworks equipment using the plug into the mower for power facility?
@Joel-Melody2 ай бұрын
Thanks for taking the time to watch my video. As mentioned, I thought providing a review from a residential owner’s viewpoint would be useful. The user manual suggests plugging it in after each use, recharging to 100% which is what I mostly follow. The manual also states not to leave it plugged in more than 12 hours. When you begin charging, the mower tells you what time it will be done. I just set an alarm on my phone to remind me to unplug it. I think the lowest I ever got the battery was around 38%. That was after mowing my property and my neighbor's two fields and pasture. If my memory serves me right, the mower recorded I had cut just over 7 acres. Typically, I just mow my property and finish with the battery in the 72-76% range. I went from using a 42" John Deere lawn tractor to my 52" Optimus Z. When making that type of transition you save time in three ways. The zero turn has more efficient maneuverability, faster average cutting speed and larger deck size. So, in your case the deck size would be 25% larger. It's harder to quantify the other two factors but I would say at least another 15%. So, in your case of taking 5 hours, I estimate it would reduce to 3 hours or so with the 60” Optimus Z. I own the Greenworks 80V blower and weed trimmer. I bought them as a package and purchased an extra battery. When the first battery is depleted, while it’s charging, I use the second one. I find it nice to not be tethered to anything which is why I didn’t purchase the Optimus Z cable. I’m putting the Greenworks 18” Pro chainsaw on my Christmas list this year! If you decide to buy the 60" Optimus Z (I think it's a solid choice if you got the funds), drop me a line as too how much it reduced your mowing time!

@@Joel-Melody .. thanks very much for your comments! It's all been SUPER helpful for me, as you're in exactly the same situation! In Australia, while a number of these machines have been purchased by councils and the like, there are only around 10 residential users so far - IN THE WHOLE COUNTRY!! So it's very new here. And it's a huge investment. Anyway, we've ordered the 60" 18kW machine and it should be here next week. I also got a tipper trailer to go on the back (that converts to a 3-wheel wheelbarrow), for when I'm doing weeding, etc, and using the machine as a farm transport vehicle. We had a guy do our lawns a couple of times with his mower, which was either 52", 54" or 60" - a petrol zero-turn - and he would get around it all in about 2.5 hours. And watching how quickly they did some sections with the demo Greenworks machine was mind-blowing. So it will be interesting to see what the time actually is. And yes, I'll let you know! We've just bought a petrol weed trimmer, so would be hard to justify another one .. but without a battery, the skin isn't that expensive. I was thinking I could get that, use the cable and have it on the back while I mowed, stopping to clean up those edges and smaller areas (like through garden archways) as I go. I've sent a link to your video to my other half to watch as his "training". Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes!
@Joel-Melody2 ай бұрын
Congratulations on your purchase! Sounds like an exclusive club with only 10 residentual owners in the country! I know you will love using this machine because I love using mine. I have a small trailer I pull when working on yard projects involving transport of items. The 2" hitch up front came in handy the times I got it stuck in mud and once ran into our drainage ditch. Each back wheel has a lever you access underneath the chassis. They are used to disegage the automatic brake that keeps the unit from rolling on a slant. Check them out just in case you do have to tow it for whatever reason. I learned about them right after they delivered my unit. They had the levers in the disegaged position. My unit would roll down the slope on our driveway. I thought there was something wrong with it untill I moved the levers in the engaged position. I'm sure you won't have that issue but thought I would pass this along anyways. That's cool using the video as training. Have fun saving time!

Where’s neutral switch
@Joel-Melody2 ай бұрын
Closest to a neutral switch is the on / off power button. With power on, mower wouldn't move until control arms are engaged. If power button is pushed while control arms are engaged, mower enters a lockout condition. Lockout is cleared by disengaging control arms, and then turning power off and them back on.

Any regrets? I’m definitely considering this or even the residential versions. I know it’s a huge expense but as someone who has to constantly pay others to work on my Gas Zero Turn the idea of less maintenance is very appealing.

Well covered review. $27,000 for a mower, 04.24 MSRP, with no stereo, CD player, nor bidet; what's up with that? Deck Steel 7 gage is impressive. 42" Pro model, $4000 MSRP, has shameful 12 ga stamped deck, is in my niche corner. Blade engagement sound level was also impressive. I'm curious to know whether Greenworks applied the same LFP battery technology in all their applications. I believe it was Mean Green Mower you tried to recall, $30K for the Rival model. Thanks for the review.
@Joel-Melody9 ай бұрын
Since I'm not a commercial user, I didn't need the 24Kw battery version. 18Kw is more than enough for my needs and that drops the $27,000 MSRP price you mentioned to $23,000. I believe the LFP battery technology is only used in their zero turn applications. The other tools rely on Lithium based battery packs. Yes, Rival Mean Green was the model I was stumbling around trying to remember in my video. Thanks for watching!
