Greg, I was at the Clinic you hosted at the Northside Festival last year in Fort Wayne Indiana. I've been playing around with some of your licks, and all the different ways you can change them around. It's helped me tremendously as a musician. Advancing the way I read music, and the way I play it. Thank you for all the great work you've done!

Thanks, Donald. I'm also a tenor player. I play bari for fun every so often. Glad you're enjoying the videos.

You're a great teacher, Greg, and an endless source of inspiration. I play baritone myself and I tell you something. As good as your tenor sound is, you should definitely play more baritone out there and spread the gospel. Not only fun to play, but a personal voice in its own right :-)

Thanks, Tomas! Funny you should mention that. I haven't played baritone in about three years, but this coming summer, I'm planning on playing more baritone. I think that you'd really enjoy my video lesson course...more than 70 video lesson with PDF lesson notes. You can check it out at www.gregfishmanjazzstudios.com. Great to meet you!

Man, digging your videos and just ordered volumes 1 and 2 of this series. I started playing through a Pepper Adams solo (I'm an Old Cowhand) and damned if that lick isn't right there!

Be sure to check out my improv over Somewhere over the Rainbow. I'm very proud of that one and can easily say it has the best jazz tone I've think I've had on a ballad.

Hi Greg! interesting approach! Just got your book, I'm a Bari player, so I'm going with the Alto cds. I'm digging the first 12 licks, it's quite a challenge for me, one thing I quite like to do is sometimes to play the licks down an octave (let's be honest, what bari player doesn't just love that low octave?). Keep posting!

Using the rhythm with the off beat makes the lick a good pick up for another lick.

This is an old Yamaha 62 bari. Great horn. I prefer these earlier Yamaha 62's to the current ones. The old Conn baritones are also great horns. If you enjoyed this video, please check out my new video lesson site: www.gregfishmanjazzstudios.com

Hi Faust, Each lick is in a different key. The first lick is over Cmi7 to F7. The second lick is Bmi7 to E7, etc., descending in half-steps until you've covered all twelve keys, with a unique key for each lick. All of the licks are different from each other. If you play all of the licks on that page in twelve keys, you'll have 144 licks. The book is available at: gregfishmanjazzstudios.com and also as an iPad app on the iPad app store. That first lick that I was playing with the variations features these notes: C Eb G Bb then down to A then down to F.

Greg, Please help!! I've been trying to get rid of my screeching plastic sound on the saxophone forever now. I'm a music ed undergrad and have self-taught myself with jazz. I feel that I'm very knowledgable with the theoretical aspects of jazz, but I cannot for the life of me get rid of my horrible sound. It seems the more I'm aware of my chest-breathing and the more I try to play from my diaphragm the worse it is. Please check out my videso on my site and tell me what you think.
