So Hogan was the first wrestler ever to abruptly leave a territory? I find that hard to believe.

But keep in mind, back then the AWA was blowing up big. For an 80s wrestling show to be on freakin ESPN was unheard of and like he said, TSN on Canada (their ESPN). No doubt it wouldn't have lasted because Hogan and a few others were their only standout stars. They had the rubber figure line too in 1987 and I get the vibe it's a "what if" (Hogan stayed) bitter pill that the Gagnes still hold on to.

Gagne used his wrestlers, made sure he stayed over into his old age and made tons of money. When his wrestlers left, he was so entitled that he felt he was a victim. He acted like he was doing Hogan a favor, in his own words Hogan wasn’t ready to be a champ and didn’t deserve to get paid more for merchandise sales. He wasn’t capable of change because he knew best, after all he was the successful owner. He was a prime example of “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks”

The Gagnes where stupid let’s face it , they had the biggest star in wrestling and failed to capitalise on it , if they had then wwf might not have reached the level that they have , they are untouchable now, aew will never take over them, least for the next 20 years

Right or wrong, Vince obviously thought the number they were asking for the Company was ridiculous, and he figured he could just poach and out flank them for the territory, at a fraction of the money- and that’s exactly what he did

Verne Gagne was good at teaching wrestling but both he and Greg were not forward thinking business people. Verne was stuck in the past and did nothing to move the business forward or move with the times. Greg Gagne was a poor wrestler IMO. He looked like an insurance salesman and lacked any real charisma. Verne would use guys like his son and these old guard wrestlers like Nick Bockwinkle instead of the up and coming younger stars who were more exciting and had better physiques.

The thing about the business is that you can’t just put the title on some up and comer because there’s this thing called precedent and in that time it wasn’t unheard of for wrestlers to jump to a bigger promotion, so you can’t just give anyone the title. Hogan was going to leave no matter what because Hogan was all about MSG and the bright lights.
@STONESGAM
@STONESGAM Жыл бұрын
@@iBmEVanquisher Well, yeah. But AWA folded for a reason. They were good at what they did for a time period but didn't change or adapt to the times. Much like Blockbuster video. They were stuck in a certain old school way of thinking and didn't want to move the business forward or innovate.

@Robert Rodriguez Vince didn't get all of them--not even close. Look no further than WCW--loaded with talent--which could have remained viable if it was run like an actual for-profit business instead of a subsidized loser. Further, if the retards who tried to assemble Pro Wrestling USA would have kept their egos in check and comprised some, more promotions could have survived.

@@fjccommish Even if he had little actual power any longer (which he did have), it is still symbolic to remove someone who has brought scandal to the company if you are looking to sell the company or attract new commercial partners. In the current environment of MeToo, Harvey Weinstein, etc then all this stuff coming out about Vince makes WWE look like shit, so he had to be removed.
