I really like the IT expansion for the game. I like that you have a lot more flexibility in using parts and you don't get the people who specify new parts only. There's an option in the menu that you can check to include the optional tasks in the ticket list, that way you don't have to worry about missing those or making your own notes.

I've been really enjoying watching you play this (I started myself recently and it's ridiculously easy to just lose hours to), and I'm glad to see you making mistakes - not because it's good to see you fail, but because it's a nice reminder of just how easy it is to make a mistake, overlook something or miss a detail, even when it's something you know extremely well. I imagine this is particularly easy to do if you're also concentrating on making a video. And no-one, even if you think you have a great memory, should be too proud to make notes: use all the tools at your disposal. Thanks for a great video, and I look forward to the next instalment.

One quick tip for this game is this... even if no one mentions it in their ticket to fix their stuff make sure you check that the printer in the office is working fine before you leave for the day. That should help to get the happy face faster.

what does the office printer do with other random ppl's PCs?

@@BladePocok nothing much, but in the first email from the boss he tells you that you're responsible for keeping an eye on the printer, because everyone shares it, but no one other than you can fix it and make sure that it's working. First couple of jobs will say something about the printer not working, but later on no one says anything and you have to be mister mind reader so your rating doesn't get hit because of it.

I'm pretty sure the reason you only got one smile on the one where you upgraded the CPU is because you hit the minimum spec not recommended
@blahorgaslisk7763
@blahorgaslisk7763 2 жыл бұрын
The list at the bottom the e-mail will tell you if you will need to hit the min or recommended spec, and if you don't hit that then the list in the popup when you look at the machine will show a red warning. So that wasn't the issue. I haven't looked back but it could be late delivery or several other steps missed. I've never actually missed a delivery date so I have no idea what happens then. I've returned a machine once without fixing the main issue which was overclocking a GPU as there was no GPU available that the OC software allowed the slider to even reach the required speed, and that was after leveling two times after I got the machine. I kept hoping a new GPU generation would come online that would solve the issue. Taught me to double check the tickets before accepting them.

I've played this way to much. You are on the right track when you talk about taking notes. There's even a system in the game for it, but I prefer using notepad. When you read the message take note of everything they say and not just what you find in the list at the bottom. Write everything following a formula that allows you to keep track of all the requested actions and keep it looking the same every time so you don't have to hunt for what you should do. My template looks something like this: E-Mail address name and budget What the major issue is, so, D&F for Diagnose and Repair, UPG for upgrade + what to upgrade. Inst for Install and so on. Delineate the operations with a comma and end the list with a dot. On the same line continue with what I call the extras, such as clean the system, replace all cables with colored ones, remove virus (if the customer notes that the machine has stared to run slow or isn't as quick as it used to be) and so on. Do a line feed or two and start listing parts you will need to complete the job. Start each line with a space, I'll come back to that, and a short for the component type. I use Case, MB, CPU, RAM, GPU, HDD, SSD and PSU. For the water cooling components there's RAD, RES, BLK and GPU. Make sure to separate the water cooling stuff from the rest as those are bought from another store. Otherwise it can be hard to keep track of the number of parts you've ordered, more on that a bit later. Add a Tab before entering the part you will need, then a few tabs, at least five after the longest name you can think of, and enter the cost. Do this for every part needed and then go to the next message in the inbox. Once you have everything listed it's time to order the parts. When you add a part but a 'b' at the start of that parts line in your list. That way you can see that you've "bought" the part but it has not been delivered yet. If you happen to have a particular part on the shelve put a S or B or what ever works for you to show that you've already got it. Once you ordered, or not, all the parts for one customer count the number of parts and compare to the tally in the shopping app so you didn't forget something, then continue and do the same for the next work order. Once everything is processed it's time to hit the buy button, but not before you've checked that you have next day delivery. For some reason the game sometimes reset that to the 3 to 5 days delivery which is pretty annoying when you only catch it after the fact... As for checking the components... You don't have to rush back and forth like you did and look at the machine. In the mail there is the option to look at the hardware configuration even before you get the machine delivered, so used that. Also when checking the requirements for a program you can just as well run it on your office machine before you klick the accept button. If the customers machine use a AMD CPU or GPU when the Will It Run? app list Intel of Nvidia you just use the Part Ranking app to compare. This overrides any real world knowledge, so even if you know that IRL a certain processor is better than another for a certain app it's still the numbers in the ranking app that decides if the game think it's right. Also when the machine is up and running install the hardware monitor, 3DMark and the antivirus and run them all. Do the antivirus first, then start the hardware monitor and 3DM. This will make sure you didn't forget something as simple as the heat paste, and one of the most common things to forget is to remove virus. The anti virus takes just about no time to run and you can start work on the next machine while 3DM is running. Finally go through the list at the top of the ticket and check that you've done everything you wrote down and it should be all happy faces. Now you might wonder about the five tabs I suggested between the name of the component and the price? Well that's because some times you may want or need to order multiples of a part like memory sticks, GPU's or HDD's. Then you add two tabs after the name, add the price of one item, add a tab and the quantity, tab and the total. And now you wonder why two tabs after the name, right? Well that's so you can remove one of them in case you are looking at different solutions. Say your customer wants a dual GPU config and you are pricing them out. Add them on two lines but keep the prices "indented" until you've decided which way to go. This is in no way optimal and I really should make a spreadsheet to handle this, but at least it gives the procedure some structure and reduces the risk that you forget something or that you end up spending more than you earn on a customer. I've had tickets come up that couldn't be completed within budget. When that happens either decline or send it to the night team.

1st rule of every PC Build Sim, Clean it and Virus scan it no matter what the repair requires.
@blahorgaslisk7763
@blahorgaslisk7763 2 жыл бұрын
The clean it part is easy to remember as it's very apparent when the machine is dirty, but the virus part is so easy to forget. I've made it a habit to always install the AV software and run it. It's so quick it doesn't make a huge dent in your time management. I would recommend you also install the info software, don't remember the in game name, and 3DMark. Running those in sequence allows 3DM to stress the machine making sure it's stable and you can see the temperatures are under control. It takes a few minutes to run though but you can just start on next machine while that is running, or start looking at the mails for tomorrows work. It's a good sanity check.

I actually went so far as to print up work sheets to keep track of clients, jobs and especially the extras. Not sure if this expansion allows for the building and selling of new and used PCs on pcbay, but that is really fun. The really cool part is just by OC'ing CPU and GPU it nets you more performance and higher profit!!

There is a thing called Riggs Rigs. He will buy PCs from you, up to ten per week each Thursday I think. He pays you half of whatever a PC's 3D Mark score will be. For example, you build a system with two top end GPUs, an R9 5950x, two sticks of the fastest Ram in a mobo supporting an even faster speed ram to which you can easily overclock those sticks. A little tinkering in GPU Tuner and you have a system that can score 36000+ for around $5500. Rigg will pay you $18000+ meaning you profit around $12500. Times 8 PCs is $100000 profit. Times 10 PCs is $125000 profit. Per week. You can find a guide or two on Steam's PCBS community hub with part lists if you want fastest builds, most profitable, etc. Edit: regarding notes, I just use the Cloud Notes app in game to keep track of what I need to know about every job. Name, job type, specifics, extra details, all their current parts and new parts I'm ordering for them, parts total, parts budget, and my labor fee. Maybe my thoughts, too.

Some of the customers require you replace the one they have, you can even give them one better and they still get uppity even if it's within their price range. Like in the regular career I built a guy a PC with a ryzen 5 and 1660 super and he broke the CPU, I had a Ryzen 7 I bought as a supply piece so I went ahead and upgraded him and he gave me 2 stars since I used different parts.

Process: Read what they want. Fix whatever is broken. Order parts to replace broken stuff, even if the PC posts unless parts are missing. When PC posts, reread the instructions, did they ask for upgrades, installs or removals? Do those then reread again, did all get done? You're good to go. I still miss something every now and then but most of the time, it's a five star win. Good luck and remember, it's not a race, it's supposed to be fun! SPOILER ALERT!!! Hint, ordering the wrong ram or wrong parts is not a big deal, hang on to them, you can probably use them at some point. Also, order extra drives, case fans and air coolers, these seem to get used at an astonishingly fast rate. I usually have a couple of extra 500 GB and 1 TB SSDs as well as some 500 GB and 1 TB Kingston NVMes (No heat sinks to interfere with MB drive covers.) and the first two Arctic air coolers (Red and yellow) as they seem to fit either AMD or Intel CPUs and fit most cases. If you can't remember using thermal past, it's no biggy to pull the cooler, reapply the paste and move on. It may seem a bit wasteful to have some extra stuff on hand but as in real life, these do go fast. For case fans, maybe six or more Corsair RGB fans or one of the other brands, and a bunch of those Morton 120 plain fans. I have a few 140 mm fans too but they get used at a slower rate. Almost forgot, have a couple of 650 watt PSUs on hand for testing, yeah I've had to do this in game. OMG, sorry about the book but I want to see you win, win win!!!

Video games are not only becoming realistic in graphics.

Well now all we need are customers trying to scam you, lie to you and all that crap. Well that and scalpers hiking up the prices on all graphics cards... And suddenly I'm perfectly happy that the game isn't totally realistic. Oh and I just remember a favorite customer interaction. She called the BBB, the Better Business Bureau and complained about us scamming her. Well it wasn't actually the BBB as we were not US based but our local equivalent. It all started when she bought a bare PC from us. When asked if she wanted an OS or anything else she declined. The day after delivery of her new PC she came back and complained that the machine didn't run and we explained that she'd bought it bare and had declined the OS option. So she grumbling payed for the OS, MS DOS 3.0 I think it was, and we installed it for her. Then she called back and complained that Word Perfect didn't run so we took it back and tested it. The machine was fine but there were no sign of Word Perfect ever being installed, which we told her. Then we learned that "Everyone knows that all PC's come with WP. Anything else is unthinkable. Selling a PC without WP installed is a scam and I will call the BBB and leave a complaint! Good bye and enjoy being blacklisted. Never contact me again you bottom feeders." We got a call from some one at the BBB who asked what was going on and that was the end of that. I still chuckle at it today. At the same time I feel sorry for that woman. It has to be hard going through life that ignorant. I mean we gave her the option to order both the OS and WP when she first contacted us and she declined, so she can't have been totally unaware that WP came at a cost. I think it was about $400 at the time for just Word Perfect.
