I have made Bio Fuels for about 18 yr.. I am doing exactly what you are doing. I run about 75% in my 300D Mercedes with Monarch Nozzles set at 2,700 psi. Pressures. I have had minor problems but for the most of the issues, it was from my stupidity. Be certain to get all of the glycerine out, it causes big problems. Thanks for the video, hope the 6.5 lives good on it. With fuel cost going up my truck is going to be getting at least a 50% tank this next week. I have a new set of squirters to put in it and will feel better about running it on a stronger blend. I'm going to add a frame mounted filter. It is harder to change the filter on the engine on it and the glycerine stops it up quick. Good video, thanks...... Best advise I can give is to be careful about where you get your oil, some don't work so good.

The 6.5's problem is the optical sensor in the DS4 electronic injection pump, 1994-2000 model years. The key is very well reacted bio that is not dark colored. Any WVO that has a high titration point and/or needs acid esterification prior to transesterification isn't a good fuel stock candidate for DS4 pumps. A light colored fuel which passes all QC tests is needed with these pumps. Replacing the DS4 electronic pump with a DB2 mechanical pump is another viable solution and a permanent one that will allow for "bumps in the road" relating to slightly substandard fuel. It is very possible to do this; however, it may be cost restrictive. Manual transmission 6.5s are a much better candidate for a DS4 to DB2 swap than an auto, but it is entirely possible for an auto as well...just requires more fabrication. Also, using the DB2 pump eliminates the PMD problem associated with these trucks.

Lye is very resistant to methanol potassium hydroxide is more soluble in methanol then lye which is sodium hydroxide. Sodium hydroxide resists dissolving in methanol it takes at least 10 times longer to dissolve than potassium hydroxide

filtration can be used agro film which is used to protect plants from frost it is the cheapest filter. The film comes in 17g; 30g; For 50g / M2 thickness standards, density can be selected or a double layer can be used. It is possible to filter not only during fuel production but also before filling into the fuel tank.

Hello, Greg! Great video, wonderful presentation! I have a question about filters you use. Filtering water versus oil, which is higher viscosity. Don’t you have to replace them more often comparing to using the regular biodiesel filters? Is the water filter material durable enough what is going to work?

@chrisdaniel1339 Жыл бұрын
You do not want to heat your oil or your oil-methanol-lye mixture higher than 60°C (140°F). That maximum temperature of 60°C (140°F) is very important because if the methanol when mixed into the hot oil is at or above 64.7°C (148.5°F) which is the boiling point of methanol, it will turn to vapor and it may cause problems with your reaction. Also, the reaction occurs even at 130F so there is no reason to put extra energy into the system above 140F that you have to pay for the electricity it only serves to increase your costs. It is great you are using cone bottom inductor tanks so as to not cause more frustration in getting all of the glycerin out. If you scale up consider buying cone tanks with very sharp 58 degree cones and the have a 'full drain' feature in the bottom of the cone, this makes sure all you methanol/lye mixture goes in and there is none sitting at the lowest level of the tank. Fully draining tanks with 2" male external threads you want to add a 2"-1" reducer and after that change to vinal tubing so you can see exactly where the glycerin is when you are draining it off and being sure you are getting it all out.

You must sleep very well at night not worrying if you can afford gas for work. Sourcing the used oil would pose a problem when things take a huge downturn. Hope it does not. Can you do anything with used motor oil? Can you turn it to diesel. Thanks for a great video.

I’m kicking myself, I no longer have this setup. This worked really great for a lot of years and made a ton of fuel. I will say it’s a lot of work. It takes a while to get a steady oil supply. Fish fry season is good, you really have to stock up. It sounds like you are doing the right thing in watching how others are doing it and build what’s best for you. Motor oil- everyone will have their own opinion. I don’t think it’s a good choice. It’s nasty as far as exhaust…..if you do it maybe like 5-10% only

Hi. You dont need to make biodiesel at all. In the summer just mix clean wvo with 5 % rug and you can drive your Passat without any problems at all. In the winter mix 70% wvo with 30% rug and small amounth of acetone and that its all. I have drive all my old diesel cars on that mixture with out any problems for years. Even i have drive on that mix my 2004 Volvo V70 D5 with commonrail fuel system for years with not problems at all. For Volvo i have mix 80% wvo and 20% rug in the summer, and in the wintern 70% diesel - 30% wvo.

@ClownWhisper2 жыл бұрын
I mean it's good to be careful with things like methanol but you're not going to ignite it that easily. In a closed environment your heating methanol using some type of feedback loop with a heating element and I am assuming the heating element is in a compartment surrounding where the oil flows it's probably not directly in the oil itself but even if it would be the surface of the element is not going to get up to 300 Fahrenheit which is the flashpoint of methanol I believe. The auto ignition point is higher than that but you also have to take into consideration the fact that it's being diluted with oil it's not going to ignite ever! Not from an electric heating element it's just not you would have to have the oil saturated methanol in open air with plenty of oxygen present and use an open flame to even get it to light let alone burst. It is not explosive as you alluded to earlier it is combustible

@Morgus Schmorgus but the thing is methanol has increased at a greater rate than fuel prices because of the DIY group of people and survivalists things like that cost of electricity Etc is also obviously increased my calculations are indeed relevant today because the cost of making this has increased greater than the savings

Methanol is nothing like putting rubbing alcohol on your hands methanol is toxic it will destroy your liver. The old timers that I've worked with and Labs across the country if they get one tiny drop of methanol on there skin they will scrub with a competitive inhibitor a good competitive inhibitor that doesn't cost a lot is gasoline. But you could always use a grain alcohol namely ethanol that denatures methanol it is a competitive inhibitor and keeps your body from absorbing methanol you could drink it too and it has the same effect on stored methanol in your body
