Greg played bass for Skynyrd in 1971 during the Muscle Shoals sessions when Leon went off to manage the ice cream factory, you can hear him on Skynyrds first and last and the complete muscle shoals album. Greg T.Walker is one of the best bass players to come out of the 70's and an all out good dude!

Greg T Walker I got to hang out with you and Bobby Barth at Bobby's place in New Orleans. We were down in the studio passing the guitar in a circle. My turn came and I played something and I passed guitar to you. You gave me one of the nicest compliment I have ever received. This is what you said " I really enjoyed listening to what you had to say." It was 2005 after Katrina. I didn't know who you guys were. Now I do and thank you very much for all you do. You guys rock.

Got to meet Greg T. Walker and former Blackfoot guitarist Charlie Hargrett when they came to my home town in Kentucky back in 2012 to play with a group of other former southern rock musicians that included Jimmy Farrar(former Molly Hatchet singer from 1980-82 in Danny Jo Brown's absence ) & Mike Estes(played guitar for Lynyrd Skynyrd on their Endangered Species tour 1994-95). Greg & Charlie were both super nice, super cool dudes and very down to earth, which I really liked. They both acted like they really enjoyed spending time just chatting with their fans. There was no arrogance about either of them and nothing phony about either of them. I talked for about 20 or 30 minutes with Charlie Hargrett(big talker, LOL), and it was like talking to someone I'd known all my life. My experience in meeting Greg & Charlie was that they're both very genuine, very for real dudes. Unlike with so many of today's rock stars.

Love love love Blackfoot! This interview is great!! For some reason the camera caught Greg's face just the right way, and I saw an uncanny resemblance to Duke University's coach K. OK, here's a little truth for you. Greg didn't start Blackfoot. Lenny Stadler (recently deceased) from Reidsville,NC, and Charlie Hargrett were going to Fla. To see Medlock, who was with Skynerd before they cut their 1st album with MCA. Medlock agreed to leave Skynerd to form Blackfoot. MCA was going to sign BF but Lenny had some life threatening health problems and left BF after having a religious conversion and a miraculous healing from a growth surrounding his heart.

Sounds like Greg & Rickey must have had a falling out. Also noticed that he didn't mention Rickey being Native American, yet he mentions himself and another band member... Yes, when Skynyrd was just starting out, before they made it big, Rickey and Greg both played for them for a short time. In fact Rickey played drums on the first album Skynyrd ever recorded.
@mybourbon6 жыл бұрын
I noticed this myself. He kept saying "the other guy" but didnt want to mention Rickey's name. Finally, the interviewer was the one to say his name first.
@damnyankeeyankee68126 жыл бұрын
I think when ATCO imploded Blackfoot, there were alot of raw, hard feelings. Ken Hensley was brought in to freshen up the sound with keyboards. Then SIOGO with keyboards just wasn't well received by fans. Then Charlie was the first casualty because Charlie was playing his Les Paul the way only Charlie can play during Vertical Smiles prep. Without Charlie, ATCO didn't like Vertical Smiles and forced the remaining members to re-record the album - which was a complete disaster. During the Vertical Smiles tour, Hensley quit. And then Blackfoot spiraled down and flamed out. ATCO wanted to continue Rickey's career, so he formed Rickey Medlocke and Blackfoot with other members. And he gave Charlie, Jak, and Greg a simple buyout of $10k each and purchased the Blackfoot company and brand from them. It sounds like Jak and Rickey didn't speak until about the time Jak died. I don't know if Greg and Rickey have ever spoke since the band's breakup. Charlie was - and continues to be - on friendly terms with all of them. What's heartbreaking is, how 3 kids (Jak, Rickey, and Greg) who were all friends since age 4 - went to kindergarten and school together, learned how to play music together, and toured the world together, let Music get between their friendship. Sad indeed.

Like I said, I put all I had into jump-starting his music career - money, my house, a lot of time & effort, sacrifices, encouragement. I put together the financing (incl. hitting up friend for $) & supplied all the graphics to get his solo CD made & avail. to public. Research, marketing, promotion - you name it. All for nothing.
