Johnny Phoenix So are you conceiving that Joe wrote it all? Because he did. What about all the other things he said would happen and never did or just are completely not true? Do we just conveniently ignore them and only focus on this one example what is really don’t that good as it just fit perfectly with his narrative of God. You can cling to this dodgy example but what about the large number of times Joe was wrong? Explain that to me before anything else
@quebeccityoliver47425 жыл бұрын
@Johnny Phoenix I like this because it is so like muslim apologetics - it can be interpreted as saying, or look it clearly says that the universe is old. Unless Joseph Smith came out and said that the universe is 13.8 billion years old then he did not talk to god. This is the problem with this idea. Plus, people probably could count them and god definitely should be able. Is your god so weak and powerless? And yes, he was a good con man. Obviously.

Y'all are doing such a good thing to help people get out of this cult! I am ex-LDS after forty years in the church (I left in 1992) and am now a 64-year-old woman. I am still very angry and carry a great sense of betrayal for all the thousands of hours I spent doing "temple work" for dead people and "callings" of service that totally consumed my life probably 20-25 hours a week in addition to raising three children. Not to mention wasted "tithing" of 10% of our income for so many years. Could have paid college tuition with all that $ instead of my kids getting saddled with loans that will take many years to pay back! Members of "the church" generally won't look at or believe any literature outside of the "faith promoting literature" manufactured by the church. Have you seen the BITE model of identifying cults? It is great, but my experience has been that for the most part Mormons won't even look at it. If they DO, then they make comments such as "Well, that certainly is true about some religions but certainly NOT the Mormon church!" I agree that often the most convincing information is to point out inconsistencies in their own literature since everything else they consider to be apostate material. Showing them all the inconsistencies between the Book of Mormon and their own Doctrine and Covenants and the Book of Abraham works much more effectively. A quote by a past "apostle" of the Mormon church can also aptly apply to the JW's and many other cults. " If we have the truth it cannot be harmed by investigation. If we have not the truth it ought to be harmed.".... J. Reuben Clark. You are providing an excellent service to people. Keep up the good work!!!

I watched Nelson’s talk to try and figure out what was being fed to my family these days. 75% of the talk was fear mongering and now I fully understand why my family is so insistent (and emotionally desperate) for me to go back to lala land. The classic western colonial imagery of “members will have mansions and non members will have meager roofs over their head” was disgusting on so many levels. Wack AF. Have never heard of Greg, but he sounds like someone who would bump into you with their shopping cart, look at you awkwardly, not say anything, and keep moving down the aisle.

TLDR; as a victim of abuse from parents and partners it is validating and cathartic to hear you compare the cult experience to that of abusive relationships. In my opinion apologies from abusers mean absolutely nothing and I don't want them unless they are coupled with active work to change the abusive behavior (applied to either an abusive individual or organization). I always feel such a catharsis when I hear people compare cults to abusive relationships because while I have been atheist most of my life (dabbled in paganism and almost got recruited into Mormonism, dodged that bullet), I grew up with abusive parents and have been involved in abusive relationships. I feel like these experiences shaped my desire for truth and drew me to the skeptic/critical thinking/atheist community for many of the same reasons ex cult members are drawn to the community. Anyways, it is a very validating comparison to hear. Something I've come to feel peace with after dealing with toxic people, going to counseling, recognizing my own toxic behavior and working to be a better person is that personally I find wishing for and wanting an apology from my abusers to be a waste of time and more damaging to my mental health than anything. Especially when the abuser has a history of apologizing for personal gain rather than out of genuine caring and regret of their actions. I don't want apologies from my parents or my past partners who have hurt me most because I know I could never trust that is was genuine. I'm not at all saying that it is wrong to want an apology from a abuser, church, etc. But I can imagine imagine how difficult it would be to trust the authenticity of an apology from a corporation as large and powerful as the Mormon church. I think if a person or organization truly feels sorry for their actions, they will work to change. Inevitably those changes will be visible (at least to some degree) to those they have hurt and for me as a victim that means so much more than an apology, especially consistent change. I'd much rather my parents actively work to change the way they treat me by going to counseling rather than apologizing (they have avoided, refused and made excuses for not doing this for the last 25 years, but maybe some day that will change). I'd rather just never talk to past abusive partners again, but if I had to I'd want to see them treating others better than they treated me and not displaying the same toxic behaviors on social media or other social situations. Words are powerful, but in this instance they mean nothing to me as a victim of abuse. A change of character and behavior means more than "I'm sorry" ever will.

Furthermore, no Latter-day Saint would wisely seek such information prematurely, any more than a parent would want a child to read an unauthorized transcript of the temple endowment prior to attending the temple for the first time." Honestly, I'm not surprised. I just find it sadly funny at this point. They really wanna shelter their members huh

They are all broke, those jobs dont exist, but they are pressured to chase money and opportunity that does not exist, so the frustration levels are high, their home and growing family is therefore always tense. The church further pressures them by promising the windows of heaven will open and shower them with ble$$ings and their faith will grow, and opportunitie$ wil flow, by giving more money now, in the form of generous fast offerings. Of course if your little family is now further impoverished by making further offerings, asking for food assistance from church will be denied; the official directive is the bishop now says Go, ask your family or the town/another church food pantry, recieve state welfare benefits....and continue to give all your time money talents and life to the church, recieve pressure and expectation to give more. Follow the profit= an eternal grave.

"The bottom line is that if there is a loving God, then there is no policy on this earth that is going to keep you out of the presence of God and long as you are living your life as a good person." Except that the church was LITERALLY stripping people of their 'eternal salvation' because of this policy. Also, based on Rusty's conference talk, it is clear he definitely does not believe this; he hit super hard on how we will be separated from our family members who are "unworthy". Nice try Greg, but according to your church this is demonstrably false.

Is the information about growth hierarchies available publicly? Sounds interesting.

When Greg Trimble brings up "past" situations where an apologetic argument for those situations has satisfied the minds of believers, he's expecting a similar line of reasoning to satisfy the minds of believers with the current situation. But the condemning nature of the current situation against the church's truth claims is such that: 1. Some past situations used by believers or apologists are not accurately analogous to this situation. And there is either one or more unique factors the current situation has that the analogous situations didn't have which nullify the previously used line of reasoning for the current situation. 2. Accurately analogous past situations would only reveal further condemning evidence for the church and its truth claims.

Seriously, the last good “prophet” who had something relevant to say was Gordon B. Hinckley. After he passed away, Monson and Nelson both sucked.

Paul never met Jesus or any of the disciples. The man needs to read the book.

A lot of Christians need to read the Bible, actually get into it. After that there won't be as many Christians.

I don't think they can say "sorry" cause they would be admiting fault and be liable for damage they caused with a false policy. I mean if they were all loving and stuff they should be better than that but... almost like they don't genuinly give a shit. hmmmmmmm WiERd

Greg clearly didn't hear Nelson's talk that says all the good people are not going to the good heaven. You have to be on the Covenant Train. I wish you guys would do a video on Nelson's Come Follow Me conference talk. It was so atrocious, we need to hear rational thought addressing it. Please? Tell Greg to read the that talk. His whole paradigm will need adjustment. Spoiler alert: what's love got to do with it? Nothing!!

Church of Christ... do you mean The Church of JESUS Christ (Bickertonites) or COMMUNITY of Christ (Formerly RLDS)? Both are better options, but CofC is the most open minded of all of them.
