I’ve watched a bunch of his interviews and he is complimentary to everyone and unlike other wrestlers( U Warrior)doesn’t try and bury anyone. Legit nice guy.

When I was kid The Hammer was one of the guys that made me believe in wrestling. He could tell a story in the ring.

I got really into wrestling in the mid-80s when I was 11 or 12 years old; must have been early 85, I think, so I missed the Hammer's IC runs, but what a great heel he was! No ridiculous gimmick or backstory needed; he was believable as a character, his move set was believable (and damn, his elbow smashes and drops looked like they really hurt!), he could sell like nobody's business too (I loved his staggering faceplants!) and he made wrestling believable. Haven't seriously watched or followed wrestling since about 1990, but I stumbled on these interviews, and now I'm binging them and remembering those halcyon days before wrestling jumped the shark. Thanks, Hammer, for then and now!

Well, sadly they gave him a ridiculous gimmick when he teamed with The Honky Tonk Man and made him dye his hair black (Rhythm & Blues).

@@mkl62 Ugh, yes. Might have been an OK team if they'd just let Hammer be Hammer rather than try to make him twinsies with Honky. Vince just couldn't resist foisting gimmicks on guys who didn't need them, though. (See Tito Santana's run as 'El Matador,' too.)

@@waywardwayfarer Others that come to mind are making Steve Armstrong Lance Cassidy and Tracey Smothers as the dim witted Freddie Joe Floyd, Plus there was making Dick Slater The Rebel. What ruined Slater, IMO, was when he was squashed by Don Muraco on Saturday Night's Main Event in November 1986.

WWF should have done more with The Iron Sheik & Nikolai Volkoff. Just a great pairing that could generate heat. I was a huge British Bulldogs fan but I also liked Sheik & Volkoff. WWF should have done more with King Kong Bundy and Big John Studd too.
