Amazon Luna Review: Cloud Gaming Any Good?

Just ordered one, kinda interested to check in on cloud gaming. I think it's going to be the future of gaming because the manufacturers can sell a subscription and not the console at a loss.

One day, yes. But that future is a long, long way ahead. Won’t be happening in the next 20 years due to how the latency is always present

@@SkyStream-lt4dz I absolutely agree with you. We have a LONG long way to go before it will be perfect. I want to think that WiFi 6, and 5G or 6G will get closer. Latency is not as far off as you think it is. It seems that the bigger problem I experience is the buffering due to "bandwidth". An example would be the Amazon what's it called Luna? I played Hot Wheels which I have on PC and XBox just to do a comparison and at one point the video froze but I was still 100% steering my vehicle it glitched for a few seconds before I then saw I was turned towards a wall.. Now it's possible that it freezing stopped registering my input's and just pretended I was still holding the buttons so that would be fair to say not sure on.. But yes, long way to go before it will be mainstream and when it does I suspect all consoles will be streamed to "prevent piracy" and "encourage subscription models". Which means more money for the developers and more games for the players all at better cost points. But man, thats so far away I cant wait.

I think it could be the future, if gamers buy into it. But if you look at what google did with Stadia, they closed the service down because not enough people were using it.

@@trustmebrobro I only got to play a little while. Plenty of room for improvements but a great start. I had to pause my subscription due to my vehicle breaking down and needing to have surgery and needing to pinch every penny I could to try and afford all that. Been struggling pretty good unfortunately. When I did use the Luna it was impressive compared to other devices I’d used so that’s awesome

I just got retroarch setup on my girlfriends firestick so her 7 year old could experience playing the old school console games. Works great with the 8bitdo controller we got her. If she really takes to it, we can get her going with modern games on luna now. And all done with a $20 firestick & $30 BT controller? Brilliant!

I agree that Amazon luna is good enough to play and latency is barely noticeable with great internet. Especially in the summer so you don't heat up your whole room as much. Unfortunately, the hardware that they have limits you from playing aaa title games as the frames are like 30-40 fps.

I just stumbled on Luna+ looking at my prime gaming. I was playing Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 minutes later with no install. Kinda cool honestly

I played the same game lol I have it on Steam and Xbox and I can say it did not play as well on Luna. It did have some hicups. But wow for a few moments it felt impressive to say the least. That was the moment I could feel that this was the future "eventually". Maybe add some closer servers, better internet infrastructure and it will be really nice experience.

Question: So. My mother has a firestick with it installed by me. I wanted to see if my switch pro controller or PS5 controller will work on it. Would it? Like if I were to bring one of those controllers there, would it work for any of the games?

Yes it does work with fire stick and I like it. Not sure on the Xbox controller I bought two generics from Amazon not the Luna one and they work great

It's kinda sht lol. I'm using it now to play FO3 for the first time in... ohhhh, 15 years+? Slight delay in everything as expected even with lightning fast 5g. No way to open the menu in game either, Esc key just closes big screen mode. So have to rely entirely on auto save and quick save features. So yeah, it's aight as a free bonus to prime i guess. Wouldn't buy anything ever. Especially since i took a shower and nearly got the boot for being afk lol. It's just never going to be optimal imo, at least, not enough for my picky ass lol.

I didnt find it to be Premium but the Construction of the Controller is very good. The Materials are inexpensive

​@@woofiooxx that's because most modern games are watered down garbage which requires almost zero input from the player where you just hold UP on the stick and sometimes press an action button to win ad the game plays itself for you. Good luck playing a real videogame where your input and precision actually matters like super mario for example via cloud gaming. You probably won't even finish level 1. Cloud gaming is more for stay at home moms who can't have their full attention because they are holding the baby with one hand and the phone with the other hand so they could play some lame horizon or assasins creed with their foot without paying much attention to what's going on the screen. Of course for someone like this input lag is a non-existent problem. It's especially funny if you're from the US because internet speeds and quality in america is comically bad compared to the rest of the world.
