Aside from being an awesome fusion shredder, I had no idea Greg Howe is so amazing at demoing gear. He looks and sounds so polished/articulate when he speaks. Carvin should hire Greg to do all their demos - this guy rocks. Sweet guitar/amp too!

The true king of Fusion!!
@TheVintageyear9 жыл бұрын
tonykratos I'm a fan of Greg but I wouldn't say that. Fusion is a really broad term. This type of fusion is very different from the jazzier type of fusion like John Scofield, Allan Holdsworth, Mike Stern, Scott Henderson, Wayne Krantz. Harmonically and rhythmically. This type of fusion is more aimed towards rock and metal guitar players.
@TheVintageyear9 жыл бұрын
Not trying to sound rude, but I strongly recommend taking studying jazz harmony and jazz melody a lot more before comparing Greg and Allan. Greg is rock-fusion and the other one is JAZZ-fusion. There are BIG harmonic textural differences between them. The differences between Allan and Greg might seem small to most rock players but if you have been interested in jazz for a long time you'll hear the BIG difference between the harmonic and melodic content of Allan Holdsworth and Greg Howe. It's not just the amount of gain or technique or style they're using. In the "jazzier type" of fusion you can look to Pat Metheny, early-Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, John Scofield or Michael Brecker for that matter If you want to actually hear HARMONY and not just the shred licks/rock techniques and to actually outline chord changes in more than a haphazard way. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of Greg because he's one of the few rock players who understand the importance of harmony and rhythm when it comes to improvising over changes (unlike a very famous "fusion" guitarist whose name start with "S"), but Greg's way of playing over changes is different for those jazz-fusion guys who hear harmony with a lot more precision like let's say like those who play over changes habitually (Allan Holdsworth, Ben Monder, John Scofield, Adam Rogers or Scott Henderson for example).

@@TheVintageyear fun fact is that i have been to a greg's clinic back in 2008/2009 and he liked to refer to himself as a rock guitar player with some jazzy licks. He's really a nice guy who would never compare himself to other guitar legends; he also said he was very grateful to allan for what he learned from him.

I won't give it all out, but it was the street you grew up on and when you and your brother use to help me as a very youg kid. Greg haves very similar style with tony Macalpine and very humble like him curiously tony played carving guitars on the past 6 and 7 strings guitars were very cool and the reason why tony left carvin was due to the 8 strings guitar with floyd and only Ibanez makes come true his 8 strings guitar dream . Satriani on 2010 switches to 24 frets too , Vai ( many years ago ) , Guthrie Gorvan and Howe very nice team of 24 frets

Greg Howe, one of the truly transcendent players of our time. Played the Maragold the other day, really a great amp for lead...funny too, I do the "basketball test" with every amp I buy, didn't know anyone else did that! The thingy on the neck I suspect is a string damper. It stops unwanted "ringing". While he is tapping it's difficult to damp the strings with the palm hence the thingy which I believe is a hair scrunchy. Just my guess. Oh, nice playing on the part of Greg.
