Best advice...first off, don't quit your day job. Up at 5 getting a few hours in before you head off to the town job shows you're serious. Between farm and day job you were probably working 70 hrs. a week. Setting yourself up before you quit is great advice. Thanks for the wonderful testimony!

What? Wait.. making fence IS FUN lol I’m 51 and striving to get out of the daily grind. I don’t want to do livestock. I’m bringing back 25 acres of former crop land with my 9 horses, little goat herd, a couple pigs and chickens. I’m trying to start a native tree/plant deal. Love the shirt!

Im living that grind right now working 40-50 hours a week. Only able to work the farm on weekends.How do you train large numbers, 200 head let's say, to electric fence . I've recently began working part time for a large cattle ranch. They are not regenerative. I'm mostly mending barbed wire but I'm shaking hands with some key players in livestock. Hopefully I can show them it works on my small 20 acre farm.

Greg, You are a God sent! 8 months ago, I inherited a 200 acre/ 60 head cattle farm (completely open) after my grandfather passed away (NW Arkansas). I’ve survived through the winter but was feeling completely overwhelmed as I enter my first spring. I had a gut instinct that to survive I needed to look into rotational grazing. Then I stumbled onto your videos over this past week. I have now ingested hours and hours of your teaching (Thank you Corona Virus Quarantine!!). Thank you for the encouragement. I just bought a place in Southern MO on 11.5 acres. About 10 is woods. I am following my dream. I found you because of searching how to raise sheep which is my goal eventually. I figured sheep would be better than cattle because I can butcher them myself. I go down (4 hour drive) and work on the inside by myself. Right now, I am painting all the inside, then flooring. I raise meat rabbits and will get chickens once I move. There is a ton of work to do, but it will be worth it when I am finished. I have lots and lots of fencing to work on and the pre-existing chicken coop to clear out and fix. I do want to build a small barn for a horse eventually and to store some hay. Thank you so much for sharing your story. It has really encouraged me. God bless you!

Great video Greg, as always. I love those shirts! You know, I like farming, growing crops and stuff but I am really getting burned out on doing it. I get way more enjoyment out of my sheep and dogs than I've gotten out of growing commercial crops in years. The inputs, the fickle grain markets the small planting and harvest windows...yadda yadda yadda. I'm really trying to change my operation over to a considerable volume of livestock and putting a chunk of the land back to grass and/or annual forages. My other passion is honey bees, something that goes along with livestock much better than cash crops. I just can't get brave enough to jump too far, too fast with it because a majority of my income is still tied to keeping my head above water with the crop production. I will get there though because I'm committed to making it work through your inspiration. Thank you sir and thank Jan for me for her helping you realize your dream and in turn, helping all of us.

Thanks Greg! I think I'm maybe in a similar spot that you were in, minus the divorce (wife and I are on same page). I've got a good job, own a farm, but looking towards that day when I can quit my day job. I'm 41 now and I'd love to be able to quit in about 10 years (or less if I'm very fortunate!). Hello Greg, Thank you for sharing this inspiring story. My husband and I want to do the same. My husband has been working a bottled water company for 20 years. He works outside all day, driving a truck but the dream is for us to work together as a family on our land. We just bought 8 acres last August. We raised 26 meat birds this past fall. We didnt sell them, a few died. But we ended up putting about 23 birds in our freezer for meat and gave away a couple. Most of our land is wooded so we would have to clear a lot of it in order to get started with sheep. A friend of ours has been raising sheep for us, in Indiana but we want to purchase our sheep here, so they'll be acclimated to our warmer and humid weather in MS. I would love to speak with you and get your thoughts and experienced opinions on what we should do as far as our land is concerned. I started a painting company a year ago so we could bring in more income as well. But my heart is in the land and raising animals. It breaks my heart to leave daily to go to a painting job. I want to begin bringing in a profit with our land. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. But would love to chat with you if possible. Thanks a bunch!! Mr. Judy, Employees are tough to find and deal with since they have more rights than the business owner. My problem here is that we are new to the area and this is not North Dakota anymore! Quite a culture shock when it comes to finding employees or even "professionals" to accomplish tasks that are above me skill or experience level. So we have scaled way back here even getting rid of our beloved sheep simply because without people to count on to assist, we really could not raise them up to our standards or anyone's standards so better to put them in the hands that did not have these problems. You know I always heard about the range wars of sheep vs cattle producers, but only since we moved here to Ohio did I ever witness this kind of stinking thinking. I know those good service providers and great employees are out there, but we have only found a couple and have learned now to scale way back because we can't just hire it done here.

Hey Greg, new subscriber here and love your content. We live in the mountains of interior BC Canada on 7 acres. Im very interested in working the land and researching leasing land in my area. Problem is it snows a good 2 feet and probably need to supplement hay for 4 months for sure. Is that still profitable, or do you need to keep them on pasture all year round in order to make it work? Kate Medland We use trees for posts sometimes. We just posted a video on it recently. They can have issues as the trees grow, but it’s a good option in the near term for us for our fences through the woods. - Alex
