In Latin, "arca" means chest (as in a treasure chest). A treasure chest probably has some secrets within, and it reminds me what arcane means.

Hey, just thought I'd help you out in understanding the phrase 'the prodigal son returns'. It refers to the story (actually a parable) in the Bible where a son demanded his inheritance (lots of money) from his father then left him. He spent all the money and returned poor to his father many years later. Hence this is the phrase 'the prodigal son returns'. In the Bible, the father embraced his son with joy, welcomed him back with a huge feast, and then scolded his other son for criticizing his zeal for celebrating his son's return in a way he never did for him.

21:20 The prodigal son is a story in the Bible! One son takes his inheritance and leaves the family. He spends it wildly and then returns to his father. His father accepts him back, and the loyal son who stayed home with his father was pissed off that his dad brought him back in. I would read it- it’s a good story!

Listen guys, this is literally the best online resource I found for my GRE preparation. I haven't been preparing that long cause I wanted to do the GMAT first but that is one horrible test, I just became anxious studying for it. I have only switched to the GRE since last week so I needed to find online material I could use to study efficiently and this is just perfect. Normally free material is covered with advertisements or user unfriendly formats etc, but your page is perfectly organized, the explanations are useful, I'm just very, very grateful!!!!! Ok back to studying!

Concerning number 11, actually, I was surprised when you picked up "mysterious" for "arcane" while I think it is not mysterious at all, but rather it is less common or less familiar or known to the public, though an arcane idea or concept is discernable and easy to understand when it comes to weighing in against the public.

In part 4 question 25, "a cosmopolitan city" means "a well-developed international city", therefore i think "advanced" rather than "worldly" is more suitable as a replacement for "cosmopolitan". by the way, doesn't "worldly" mean "physical as opposed to spiritual" and "mundane"? hence, i didn't see any overlapping in their(worldly and cosmopolitan) meanings, except for the "world" part in "worldly" and the "cosmo-(universe)" part in "cosmopolitan". Would anyone like to resolve my doubt to the given answer in the video? much appreciated.

If I may, compelling means you are kind of pursuing someone to believe in what you think. Brilliant, on the other hand, means that the idea is already good enough. You do not have to chase someone to believe in anything, it is already perfect. So, persuasive is of course a better fit here.

I'm a native English speaker and in the previous tests, I would always get 25+. I don't understand how non-native speakers do better than me on these tests. Well, they could always be lying or guessing. I also get confused with the other languages I speak so that might be an issue e.g. contendere means to argue/dispute/compete in Italian

Hi! Do you still not knowing what 'the prodigal son" means? It basically means that the child (especially a son), that moved to live on his own, ends up coming back to live with his/her parents. I know it because that is the only remaining popular use of the word prodigal (= pródigo) in Spanish.
