Gregor | A Clone Wars/Bad Batch/Rebels Animatic

My drawings of (and some speculations on) Gregor’s story, inspired by The Clone Wars, The Bad Batch, and Star Wars Rebels… Please note: There are some spoilers referenced here if you haven’t seen these shows. It also touches on some more serious themes.
This was a way for me to experiment with transitions and a bit of non-linear storytelling, as well as a chance to try out a different brush.

Seeing the classic Republic Commando HUD POV in your art style was really cool! Also love the series of versions of Gregor throughout his life when it says "Am I right back where I started fourteen years ago?" It looks so goooood!

Thanks so much! Glad you liked those parts. Yeah, I was working on it and realized - wait, since Gregor was a commando, how can I not include a HUD perspective? I need to include that! And it was fun to do that line-up of Gregors too.

Gregor is one of the greatest clones out there, from his bubbly personality to his fascinating story. To see it told through this breathtaking animatic was truly incredible. It hit all my heartstrings, especially seeing his old squad, the Foxtrot Group. (Also I love the detail of all of the clones Rex worked with being in there when Gregor serves his special recipe like Fireball, Nemec, Samson, Greer, Howzer ect.) I’m going to go cry now- 🥲

He really is. Gregor endured so much but persevered, despite amnesia and everything else. Aw thanks so much! Yes, that Clone Underground drawing was directly inspired by that TBB s. 3 part when Fireball mentions Gregor’s recipe. Since then, I’ve pictured Rex’s batch all gathering around for a meal, with Fireball assisting Gregor in the mess hall (since Gregor does have restaurant experience after all). Before other s.3 events, of course… 😢

Yes! Gregor was such a trooper. (Pun not intended.) Despite everything he faced, he took it like a champ and kept his determination and kind heart. Of course! :). I knew it, it made me forget the events that happen later on for a blissful moment. Also I love that so much!! When I heard that mentioned in the show I immediately imagined something similar as well. That makes so much sense on how Fireball knows Gregor’s recipe. Gregor deserved a restaurant with his experience and skills 😭. Your drawing really pictured it out so perfectly.

I wish we got to see more of the Clone Underground/Rex’s Batch in season 3 - I really liked those episodes (#6 and #7, I believe). Yeah, Gregor having a restaurant would be so wholesome (and probably hilarous too)!

Thanks so much! Yeah, for some reason Gregor’s story came to mind when I heard this part of the song. It just seemed to fit, plus it presented a unique challenge for me to try figuring out how to do a non-linear story… Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, I decided to explore the idea if those three ended up in isolation/early retirement on Seelos just a few years or so after the ending of The Bad Batch… which is kind of a depressing thought… Thanks so much, by the way! Despite the more serious/sad themes, this was a lot of fun to work on and draw.

Daaaaaaang!!!! That was so well done, I really loved the transitions. And him crying at the end 😭 that had me sobbing on the inside, insanely well done!! Wolffe, Rex and Gregor in their walker 💔 I don’t now why but I was hit *hard* I also loved how your stamp changed to a commando (This is promptly going to my cw animatics playlist) Now if you’ll excuse me while I go watch your Sev, Wolffe, and meeting the batch animatics again to cheer me up May I take some more screen shots?

Glad you liked it! Yeah, it was a more somber vid to work on due to the themes, but a chance to explore some scenarios we didn’t see in the shows (like Sarrish and an early retirement on Seelos). Thanks, it was fun to fit in a commando cameo at the end with the outro! 😁 And certainly! I may post a few still arts from this on Deviant Art etc. soon (which might be better definition than the vid)… if there’s any scene in particular that you’d like to see, just let me know!

And I kinda liked the more somber feeling, even if I had to go watch your more cheerful animatics afterwards lol Your welcome! 😄 it was one of my favorite parts! Thank you!! I feel bad for Gregor it seems like he lost his entire squad and then got abandoned at a planet. I love the animation style I like how you show what you think his squad would look like which is very cool another excellent animation 👏

Yeah, Gregor’s story is pretty sad. But I appreciate him as a character with how he persevered through it all. Thanks!! I tried coming up with what some of his Foxtrot unit might’ve looked like, since we don’t know for sure. Glad you enjoyed it!

Yeah, Gregor rocks the beard look in Star Wars. Same with Mayday…. (Sorry, Obi-Wan 😂). This was actually the vid I was working on before I got sidetracked with doing that Trooper Dan vid (I needed a break from drawing so many faces 😆) so it feels good to have finally finished this one!

Wow! Great job! I loved that it showed him as younger too and his history with of how he was and remembering himself! And showing their retirement. Also amazing showing how his past was by how he got onto the planet! Well done! This is certainly amazing! The music went well great with it too! Same as some of their own audios from the show. This was fun to watch 🙂

It was a lot of fun to draw some scenes that we didn’t see in the shows, like Gregor waking up on the transport after the crash on Abafar, him at the Battle of Sarrish, and an early retirement on the AT-TE walker (assuming that those three went to Seelos not long after the ending of The Bad Batch…). So glad you enjoyed watching it!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it, thank you! Yes, Gregor is awesome. I was devastated the first time watching that Missing in Action episode when he stayed behind, sacrificing himself for D Squad. I was so happy when he appeared in The Bad Batch to bridge the gap between TCW and Rebels. (I was really hoping we’d get to see exactly how Wolffe joins up with him and Rex, too…)

@@zoobaby19 Exactly! I’m holding on to hope that we’ll get that Clone Underground/Rex’s Batch show. It would be really interesting to follow their stories and learn more about the early Empire timeframe. I think TBB definitely left the door open for that type of show!
