I made this video because some comments say: "All your guitars sound the same"... So I played a few guitars in a row with just the same same setting. Do they sound the same?

It is simply too much to answer - I hope you understand.
But of course I will answer to all inquiries for the guitars I sell!! You also can call me if you have questions on the guitars from my sales list. You will find some FAQ on my page a - including: explaining the recording setup, what strings and plek I play, what amp and microphone plus plus..!

what this guy does is priceless...he hangs up his ego and actually helps serious people develop opinions about the tones of different very expensive guitars. If you dont have the money for these guitars you should not criticize him because those of us who want to buy expensive guitars would like to see them at their max potential, like a clean overdriven sound under limited, repetitive conditions

what you are hearing is the skill of a great player who could make any guitar sound great - the tone comes from wood, pick ups, amps and pedals and some of the players feeling towards music.

Always amazed how one can misinterpet a comment. unless it's a reading comprehension defecit. I praised Gregs playing. I praised his videos in general. it just that i would like to hear a totally clean sound as part of his already great videos. Like this one for example. Too compressed for my taste. I'm always thinking...if greg just disconnected from ALL those effects and plugged straight into his amp...He'd sound EVEN BETTER. Thanks Greg for all your effort!

Fantastic tone on all of those guitars, but the P90s absolutely stole the show. Crisp bite from the bridge, warm, smooth and yet clear tone from the neck. Absolutely breathtaking tone from start to finish, but the P90s stood above the rest clearly.

Greg's mistakes are a) he's a great player who knows what sound he wants from the guitar, b) his fingers have experienced a thousand guitars so they instantly adapt to play what he wants, and c) he has his own recognisable style. Wish i made those mistakes! Greg, please ignore the fools and keep the videos coming!

The difference is subtle but evident Gibsons sound like Gibsons and Fenders like Fenders, humbuckers like humbuckers and SC's like SC's. Very good dynamics from an outstanding player. I'll go with the in your face tone of the Les Pauls.

I don't find it that subtle. For some it will because he's playing the same style; but it's clear the differences between guitars. Nevertheless, all guitars are very good, specially the Teles.

I said this statement 2 years ago. Not to knock greg, He is a great guitar player and he likes guitars.Obviously, using the same od pedal, same amp will warrant silmilar tones. For everyone who believes in that statement should ponder this. We are not in the room when greg is playing. You tube has a huge influence on a guitar's tone. He is one fortunate bastard to have all those cream of the crop guitars. Rock on greg!!

They all have a similar sound obviously because the settings aren't changed. But you can hear the difference in the tone of all the guitars. But I do agree with one of the other commenters, the gear you use does colour the tone a lot.

It's the PICK! Those 2mm delrins are great but finicky, with jingly piercing sharp attack, creamy soft tone, even muffled if played gentle, then suddenly dashing, slicing the strings if you delve in hard. Perfect for Greg's style. Darn difficult to shred too. Great vid, BTW. Keep on rocking. Or bluesing, for that matter.

Hi Derek. Happy New Year. I mentioned neighbours because most of us haven't got a sound proof studio for practicing. What I meant by "clean" boost was that it would a "transparent" boost, so only decibels, not timbre. That was all. I think Greg is brilliant, but the Okko pedal does morph the sound of the guitars. It's a great sound, don't get me wrong, and if it's his favourite, great, even better, no problem. I still insist it would be better to try and achieve a more transparent tone though.

The neck pickup on the Les Paul Special was awesome! But the differences with that much gain are subtle compared to their clean and low gain sounds. It sounded different, but not enough to listen without seeing which guitar was used and say "that's a Les Paul with P90s" or "that's a Strat".

They do sound the same because you have a very particular picking style. I'm not entirely sure, but I think you hold the pick near the tip, so your thumb hits the string, producing a recognisable squeal.

It's his style of playing that defines 90% of his sound. The tone is almost entirely in his hands. Other players adapt their playing to the type of instrument gut Gregor doesn't. That's all there is to say. Of course there are differences between the instruments. I think this video is the perfect example of how important the player and his style is! Great playing of course.

I realize the great time differences. Between the start and the lp especially. The lp has a a much deeper heavier tone while the start has a lighter sound. The p90 lb jr has a somewhat weaker sound that the lp custom dude to the single coils although still great. The tele has a high and bright sound as well. More than the stray as it seems to me.

I recomended this Channel to a friend a told me the same, "all videos sound the same". I think he is wrong. The thing I most like about this channel is the noticed tonal difference in all the guitars (strats sounds like strats, teles like teles, lpaul like a l paul, 335 like 335, etc, even with the same gig) MY OPINION? Great Job Greg, keep it up!

it is normal and expected that guitars sounds similar, but they are not the same...i am a big fan of john mayer, listen to him on strat and on es 335/339 which are two very different guitars, you will hear differences, but not so big ones... Greg, you have you own style and I admire your playing, in all your videos i only hear your style and aproximate sound of different guitars. And using okko and vahlbruch, you created your own tone which everyone hears and thinks that every guitar is same :D
@mateo2006

Does the Diablo impart a definite 'flavour' that reduces the differences more than if you were just playing through an overdriven amp? I'm sure it does. But so would a tube screamer, a tube driver or a Hermida. I think, the Diablo sounds great. I think a constant with the sound is the great reverb coming from that amp. Does a neck humbucker sound like a neck single coil when using one. Obviously not. Incidentally that Epiphone Paul hangs quite well with those much more expensive instruments.

Let's not forget the role of the amplifier as well as the player in the sound equation. If Greg were to change amps every minute throughout that piece, you'd hear a bigger difference in sound. Also if a different guitarist were used each time a guitar & amp were changed, you'd notice an audible difference. A player's feel is also an important part of the total sound equation.
