My Orthodox synod uses the Sarum use of the Roman rite. We sing Daily Offices in liturgical English and Mass in Latin with parts in English. Our diocese is in the British Isles. We often use the ancient chant of Salisbury Cathedral (Sarum chant), which was also used in much of the country. The Sarum Use codified the pre-schism liturgical practice of the British Isles under Saint Osmund of Salisbury in 1074. The Sarum Use was then extensively in the south of England and the rest of the country until the first Book of Common prayer in 1549 under Edward VI, the Sarum use being one of its foremost influences. Indeed, the other liturgical uses of the Roman rite in Britain, such as the use of York, were also in large the same as Sarum with some variations. Henry VIII mandated that the Sarum use be the only practice in the country.
