In #PCDC S1:E4, I take a stripped-down case out back and thoroughly hose it down 😅 They just keep getting worse and worse - which I suppose is a good thing for this series! Thanks for the love.

@@hammerheadcorvette4 ? The new system has a giant filter running down the front of the case - where the only intake fans exist. Another large filter up top, and a smaller one for the PSU below. Pretty standard for ATX cases. But if his system looks this bad in six months, I'll clean it _again._ No biggie :-)

@@GregSalazar I noticed that, but the original case had build up in the back panel, side panel etc. I had this issue with my 2 builds until i rigged filters to them. Home with carpeting and ceiling fans, ppl who smoke/ aromatic air freshners etc.

I love how this is considered the "worst" so far. I built my boyfriend's new PC and then cleaned all the components from the old PC so that I could use it and when I tell you it took me two full cans of compressed air, about 3-5hrs total of cleaning/rebuilding time, and each component/the case itself had about a centimeter of dust covering it, I'm not kidding. To put it into perspective, this case has lived on the floor its entire life (not anymore now that I'm using it) and we have carpet and two cats. To top it off, the PC hadn't even been opened in at least 2yrs, and I have no idea when it was last cleaned but it was not cleaned two years ago when it was open, just had a gpu switch. Loving the system now and it's running a lot cooler now that it's clean. It'll definitely hold me over till I can afford the last few components for my own build.

I used to smoke indoors and as a result, had to fully disassemble my computers every 2-3 months, and do a full on cleaning that started with washing everything in the sink or shower, including motherboard...and then a full on alcohol wipe down of everything. The full process would take hours...usually a day of casually cleaning. Even with all the cleaning, the "tar" would still end up in places that cannot be easily cleaned...like inside fan hubs, eventually causing the fans to run slower or just seize up entirely. I quit smoking a couple years back and now rarely have to clean things...though with a dog in the house, I still do it every now and then. I no longer have to run filters on my case, though, which really helps with overall temps.

The NZXT Phantom! I'm currently cleaning my white one to give my old build away to my nephew, I definitely won't go as deep in the cleaning process and I'm keeping the same case but I was shocked to see the exact same model I'm currently cleaning. Definitely was a dust trap but very good airflow and plenty of room inside plus that killer look, it's been called a heater and A/C a few times by ignorant people . Actually the removable top and front panel turned yellowish (quit smoking last year), I tried various techniques, even rubbing alcohol and WD40 isn't enough so I'm doing it with acetone now, only on the top panel, the front one is less bad, the acetone dissolves the plastic and I can get rid of that brownish layer albeit killing the glossy and slick aspect of it but completely restoring the original white but it's a pain to do.

When I clean my PC, I use a soft paintbrush and a hoover to remove most of the dust. Whilst softly brushing the dust off, the hoover sucks up all the dust. If you use compressed air to remove the dust, you will just spread it around the room and also your lungs. Since dust is mostly dead skin, It's not something you really want to be breathing in. If you must use compressed air, you can do that outside.

ngl, i like this builds aesthetics, the black and white contrasts each other, and the light grey matches in that it is a transition color, do other colors work, ofc, but it is not that bad of a combo

If you're going to do indoors cleaning I recommend getting an air purifier, it will trap most of the dust that flies around. Then you vacuum the air purifier filter and you're done :D

Some compressed air, a mask and outdoors could speed this process up 10 fold.

yeah using a real air compressor. shit you don't need to clean memory modules besides blowing the dust out. you don't put water through a damn cooler, it'll corrode.

I was going to suggest moving the setup to the garage! I clean PCs when I get them to flip and I first hit them with the datavac in the garage and then I take my leaf blower to the garage to clean it out. Takes a bit longer but better than having all the dust fly around in the house. Keep up the good work!

I had the same case a few years back. Gave it and the contents to my younger sister. 6 years later I got it back looking just like that. The black rubber pieces also started to colour everything that got in contact with them.

Dust sucks, Every week I wipe my outer PC Case then 2-3 weeks I will out the inside particularly the PSU cover, and some other areas. Hopefully with a room reno and (I'd like to get rid of my carpet but probably wouldn't be able to) the amount of dust can go down. Tip on clearing the air from dust, take screen out of window, open it, if you have a fan in your room put it on reverse so it sucks the air up toward the roof. Leave it for a few hours. Of course vacuuming at the same time helps can help too.
